Get a JDM STI or better still Spec-C - either one is better than those mentioned above

WR1 is great. Not sure what they say so can't comment if it's that great but it is great.

Didn't much like the colour when it was announced but now convinced it's really nice and a great change from all the WRC blue ones. It's "only" another 15 bhp but it seems to totally transform the car, much more of a surge of power when you hit 3500 rpm than I had with my previous ppp STi. I guess this is more to do with the way Prodrive have remapped it than any real increase in power. The 18" PFF's are nice, mated with the suspension they just seem to work really well. The DCCD I'm not over fussed about, could be that in auto it works so well that you don't notice it doing anything, or alterntatively could be it's not doing anything useful. The black interior is great, really nice, big improvement over the standard blue interior of the STi.

Running costs are similar to a similar reg STi. Fuel consumption is just as bad but no worse, I seem to get 19mpg however I drive it. Servicing costs are identical to the normal STi's but there's an additional 5000 mile intermediate service. This is only an oil change but they still rob you £100 for this. But many people choose to do a similar oil change at 5000 miles anyway so in that case no increased expense at all. Insurance is often cheaper than a ppp STi as the WR1 is standard rather than an STi which is "modified" with the ppp. But check with your insurer of choice.

Thanks for that Chelspeed, very helpful My insurance quote for the Wr1 is 750 fully comp im 30 yrs old with full no claims, does this sound reasonable?
Also- how big is the fuel tank on the Wr1 and at 19mpg how many miles are you getting to a full tank? Thanks again.

750 is a blinding quote for a 30 year old! Where do you keep it at night? Fort Knox!

Fuel tank is standard STi size. I get about 180 miles average, 170 on a bad day (or should that be good day?) and pushing 200 if I'm careful.

I was paying over £200 less for my JDM even with all mods declared at 28 (though admittedly i have full no-claims discount.)

WR1 over a 'standard' STI, as long as you don't mind the colour.

This old chestnut.

Me, i'd take the STi, for cheaper than the WR1 and spend some money on it making it better and personalised.

Don't mind the WR1, but would never own one that colour. Has better residuals.

Think if i was going to buy again, it would be in this order:

Spec C
UK STi
JDM
WR1

I looked at the WR1 but didn't like the colour, but also didn't like the interior of the standard STI and the pink STI badges only work in WR blue which as mentioned is a bit "old" now... The wheels on the WR1 almost swung it as they are smart but the colour... the wife would be in it more than me...

Ended up with a crystal grey spec D with silver wheels and black leather.

Each to their own basically, but go and have a look and a test drive. You will know which one you want yourself after that.

On insurance I am 30 and pay £750 with PNCB too.

Have a look at keith Michaels insurance in Surrey (find in searches). I am 31 with 53 reg STI PPP with few mods - £650 with PNCB, much better than anywhere else I looked.

I had a wr1 ad you'd be better of with either SPEC C or a JDM STI. If it has to be a uk car then try and get a MY05 STI,they handle a lot better and have DCCD.

I'd agreee with that although I'd put spec C first, it may be a bit "Raw for some taste but does handle more like a classic so left it off

1) MY03 STi JDM
2) MY05 on STi UK PPP
3) WR1
4) MY04 or earlier STi UK PPP

You ought to try a JDM first, but the WR1 is full of Prodrive goodies and a limited Edition, but like us all it will be what you consider the best Value for money

IMHO

Personally i would go spec-c or JDM Sti on paper at least. Although if you want to stand out from the crowd, go for the WR1. They turn heads everytime and the colour stands out in a sea of WR Blue. I think the colour is great, but i would say that wouldnt i!!

Hello Mate, I got quoted £715 fully comp at 26yrs. Clearly I took their arm off as I was only geeting quoted at £2000 and there abouts. MY05 ppp 6 years no claims and that was with the Privilege who went through Direct Line, and yes they didn ask a lot of questions.
