Hi all, just to introduce myself. I have a bright red 4 dr 98 turbo 2000. mods are limited at the moment to cosmetics, as manufacturers warranty is still running & can't afford Prodrive prices!!
Do any of you have problems with a stiff gearbox on cold startup?! or do I have a problem?

Welcome on board.
I had a noticibly stiffer clutch, gearbox and steering one morning in December but it had dropped down to -21degC overnight apparently where I was.
Maybe it is just the cold...

Welcome to Scoobynet and whatever you do, DON'T enter the Muppet Show!
How long have you had your Scooby?
Seen a lady driver in a Red MY98 around Gravesend a few times.

Welcome.
My MY99 gearbox is stiff in 1st and 2nd for a couple of miles. Once the engines warmed up a bit, it's fine.
If the gears are difficult to engage after 20/30 mins of driving, then you might have a problem.

Yup, stiff stick here too, and not just cos another female has joined <insert "groan" smilie>
As FDPX etcetc said, if it don't get better on a run, you may have a problem.

Hello Missy, I get exactly the same when I come to- say some lights, put it into neutral, then select 1st and yes sometimes its a bit tight getting it in , but most of the time its alright, you get used to it. And mines a Terzo which is the same year as yours so dont worry.
For your 1st modification I'd say pop down to Scoobysport and get the exhaust system uprated, you'll love IT.
See ya

Hi pele ,
I to live in gravesend and have seen you a couple of time's , you might of seen me in my 95 wrx it's white with an sti 5 spoiler and hks exhaust.
Your gearbox should be alright but if it get's worse try changing the gearbox fluid for silkolene it worked for mine .

I will echo what a lot of peeps have said about a stiff shaft in the morning (and sometimes late at night).
But after treating it gently for a few minutes it slips in great....

Hi All!
Nice to get such a nice welcome from you all.
I think I have seen the white scooby, usually at the little mini roundabout near the edge of town?
The gearbox is fine after a few miles, so it looks like this is quite a normal thing. As for the exhaust this is what I was going to do, but the warranty people were unsure if this mod was ok, and to be honest, I don't want to take a risk at the moment (the last car I had the head gasket went, and I nearly didn't get it done under the warranty because I had uprated the exhaust, would've cost me £1000!!!)
I have visited Scoobysport though, and I might go back to see what they think.
Also I have another problem, I find the steering quite wobbly, especially over bumps, it nearly rips the wheel out of my hands, tracking & balancing are ok, I've not kerbed it and I've only had it since September.

Hi pele,
I think the effect you are feeling with the steering is just a peculiarity of the car. I think it's called tramlining. It feels like the car is being pulled against the way you are trying to steer it on some occasions and is caused by the contours of the road etc.
I used to have a MY97 with 15" wheels and I didn't notice the effect in that car, but as soon as I got my MY99 with 16" wheels I immediately noticed it. I now have a MY 00 which does the same thing so I think it's intrinsic to the later cars.
You won't notice it after another 100,000 miles or so!!
By the way how is good old Gravesend. Lived there until I was 18 and left in 1983. too scared to ever go back in case they won't let me out again (hahaha).
