Thumbs up Bargain Time on Oil .....

Popped into Trago Mills in Bovey Tracey yesterday.

They are doing the very fine Comma Lite - Semi-Synthetic 10W-40 for .....

Wait for it ......

£7:75 for 5 Litres

At that you can change the oil every month and we know that is better for the engine than even the most rip-off of Oils

Not sure if it's simply marked up wrong and I landed the bargian of the year? .....

But, get down there and 'dip yer' bread!!!'

If you are one of the Gullible, then yes, you wouldn't sleep at night with Oil that Subaru recommend in your engine ........

But, if you are clued-up and know which end of a hammer to hold you will not get dragged into the ScoobyNet Myth Machine ............. in which case, the Oil mentioned above at that amazing price is a gift from heaven (or, in this case, pslewis!!)

You are quite right, it is Stover.

I stayed at a CampSite there about 18 years ago and it's gone now! There were queues waiting to book in and a nice indoor swimming pool - wonder why it disappeared?

Trago Mills amazes me - it shows you how cheap things can be!! Bit like LIDLs I guess?? Quality for Pennies?

Anyway - this Oil is normally £15 where I buy it ..... £7:75 is a MUST BUY!!

Sadly I didn't have much room in the car or I would have bought all their stock! AND negotiated a discount to £5 if I took 20 Cans!!

Well thing is i use motul but ive noticed the scoob gets very grumpy after say 5000 miles so im thinking of trying this stuff and change it say at least 2-3000 miles

Ive heard of cars lasting donkeys years that uses cheap oil but changed very often, seems to work far better than these expensive ones as your changing it before any significant deposits get left behind

Im only 10miles from falmouth so i might run sown there during the week

I saw it at the Stover site - if it's a pricing error it may be different at Falmouth?

And, yes, agree fully ..... study after study has shown that regular Oil changes are FAR, FAR better for a cars engine than super-duper expensive Oil changed less often.

Buy sensible Oil at a sensible price, change often and reap the benefits in your pocket and in the life of the engine

Well i'll see what i can blag from them if it is

If it's £15 as you say then i won't bother, i get motul from oilman who isnt far away

I'll let you know anyway,my scoob gets grumpy on occasions and the oil has done about 7000miles so i presume it's getting dirty

Most of the time she is faultess bar the rear knock from the tein coilovers, but that's common anyway as im running pillowball mounts

Old man has run his colt on cheap castrol high mileage and at 146k it still hardly drinks a drop, goes to show all these expensive oils aren't anyway what they're cracked up to be, his engine runs sweet as anything

Comma is meant to be reputable oil anyway

But thanks for the info all the same.
Like the saying goes " a fool and his money are easily parted", sums me up in one! Sad but true

You spend £35 for 5 Litres if it makes you feel happy.

It won't do anything better and I will be £27 better off each and every Oil change ..... assuming 4 Oil Changes a Year and the car lasting 15 years, that a whopping £1620 I would have to earn about £2500 to get that net figure

My way looks like Solid Gold the more I think about it!!

Who (apart from 45yr olds pretending to be 75 yr olds ), keeps their car for 15 years ? And do Subaru recommend an oil change every 3 months when doing an average mileage ? If not, why do it - they spent millions on developing the car - surely they should know best ?!

Eh Pete ?

Pete, we're just glad you're still in the land of the living (check out the NSR thread of your name !).

Rumours of your demise are grossly overstated. I reckon you have at least another 20 years (before you collect your pension ).

As an aside to the flaming.....

Mobil1 at Halfrauds - about £48 (5 litres 5W40)
At my local wholesaler - £39
Auchan hypermarket in Calais - €32.40 (about £25)

Forget the booze cruise, try bringing back a different amber necter!

PSL - what API rating is this oil, latest and greatest standard is I think SM (mobil1 is SM as are other full synth such as magnatec etc)

Whilst you are being flamed for choosing a cheap semi-synth, its probably fair to say that it 'could' be a better oil than that originally specified as Oils have moved on a long way in the last 8 years! (or 14 for those with original 93MY classics)
