Default Decat wrap

Should be getting my decat and exhaust next weekend, a few people have told me that i will need to get the decat wrapped.
Is this right? If so can i do this myself or do i have to send it in to be done?

No need to wrap it

Its only really a good idea to wrap the headers/manifold as they get bloody hot! and without the standard heat shields if a bit of oil drops on them you could have a little fire

Depends what yuor decatting! Underfloor, no need, its worth wrapping the vertical part of the downpipe to keep the heat out of the engine bay!

soak the wrap to apply it, its easier to stretch the material. Its also worth paining the wrap to stop it smelling quite so much when its new and soaking up fluids and steaming\smoking.

I assume you mean painting the wrap Harvey Smith said it was best not to paint the wrap as it can make it go brittle and doesn't last so long

If it was me and I had the chance to get it wrapped I would. I have just had a sport cat stuck on fluffy along with ported headers and have had both wrapped since they were off the car. Helping to lower under bonnet temps can't be a bad thing right? Just don't pay over the odds if someone is doing it for you .

worth doing to get the engine bay temps down. so far i've done my headers ready to go on. took my 2 days to do! downpipe won't take anywhere near as long though. i'll be doing my centre section too as i'm removing the interior bar the front seats and dash.

i think it depends what you use to coat it, you can iirc, use flexible waterproof paint...

yep, just get the front of the car nice and high on axle stands and its not too hard...worse part is undoing the fixings by the turbo.

you can do it yourself but if you can spray the bolts holding it on with a good spray of wd40 etc, ideally everyday for a week or so before fitting(might help you get the bolts off easier).

as for wrapping there was a group buy on here not too long ago and i have heard good things about there heat wrap.(if you need somewhere to buy it from)
