Zen Performance win Time Attack round at Knockhill (now with photos)
The Zen Performance Impreza (Zen Performance - Performance upgrade solutions for Japanese cars) derervedly won first place in a Subaru one, two three in the Time Attack series at Knockhill. Despite ever changing weather conditions, including torrential rain, driver Phil Glew mastered the torrential rain and beat the amazing RCMS "Gobstopper" superbly driven by Olly Clark by over 1 second, recording a 57 second lap in the wet and on tyres far from suited to the conditions! Jimmy Mcrae topped off the podium with an excellent third place driving the Autosportif car.
Special mention must go to John Felstead, who volunteered that his car have the tranmission stripped in the paddock, knowing he wouldn't be able to drive the car home again, so the Zen Impreza could continue after destroying the transfer case during official practice.
The club class of Time Attack saw many Impreza drivers taking part. Kevin Horsley took an excellent second place on the podium , Duncan Graham (dynamix) revelled in the wet conditions late on, showboating the car out of the hairpin lap after lap .
Well done to everyone!
John

Another special mention to Mike Payne (Essexboy30) who in wet conditions took an awesome CC 1st place qualifying time in a considerably lesser specc'd car.
Mikes impreza is his work daily drive, on a far from open chequebook spec.
Having never driven Knockhill before yesterday i feel a special mention is due his way for his efforts and that of his team.
He took 6th overall in the CC after pushing slightly too hard on his 2nd hot lap.
Well done Mike and everyone else that competed this weekend

Top weekend all round for Subaru fans what with TOTB too to say the conditions were tricky is an understatment! was good to meet you John, you've got a top track there, such as shame it's so far away! and i'll let you off saying i was 3rd when i was actually 2nd in CC

Well done Kev. I've seen you drive at the 1st 2 rounds, and you never failed to entertain. A well deserved result.

I am soooooooo tired, we have had so little sleep over the last 5 days! But just to say, THANK YOU:
Tim & Gareth (ZEN) and Roy (Pro valeting)
Andy Forest for driving for mapping on Friday, including his rescue lift off, and then use of workshop facilities and headgaskets to replace them on Friday night!!! Barbara and Snr Mrs Forest for hospitality.
John Felstead (for allowing us to butcher his car)
David Wallis (for assiting Paul with a record breaking 90 minute transfer box swap to make qualifying)
And the usual: Fred Walton, Steven Darley, Pat Herborn, Moray MacKenzie, Mark Aigin, Matt & Olly at RCMS (extra axle stands!) and some others I have almost certainly forgotten (a few glasses too many!)
As usual a huge team effort, combined with probably the best race Impreza in the UK right now and a first class driver.

Well Done Team Zen, unfortunately I didn't get to see as much of the pro's as I'd have like to, i saw a bit of drifting too. The conditions were quite tricky in the wet, but its a great track. Great to meet everyone again. See you all at Brands (I hope its raining )

The scene of the two cars side by side on stands having transmition parts swapped over reminded me of the famous Ari Vatanen video of his rally car being repaired by taking the diff out of a passing 3 litre Capri, proper motorsport this is.

Great Job done by all and Zen.
Great also to hear the working between people, even outright competitors coming to help the cause of a fellow racer.
Excellent stuff.
Is it in the bag for Zen?

IIRC theres only 1 place in it between Zen and RCM, so its all to play for at Brands - I'll be there

We ended up sticking my car on the Lateral Performance trailor, and i drove the Lateral car down to TOTB. Post TOTB we installed Steven Darleys centre diff and dropgears from his wagon into my gearbox, so i could drive home. I've now got to drive down to Zen to do the swap back over so we end up with our original bits in the right cars.

1) Zen Performance 29 points (10+1, 7, 10+1)
2) Roger Clark Motorsport 27 points (9, 9, 9)
3) Guglielmi Motorsport 21 points (8, 8, 5)
4) RC Martin Green 18 points (6, 5, 7)
5) RC Clive Seddon 17 points (0, 10+1, 6)
This is based on Jimmy McRae's car scoring points at Knockhill. Add 1 point to 3rd, 4th and 5th if not points scoring.
You get 10 points for a win, counting back down 1 per position, plus you get 1 point for fastest lap of the day.
