Smile Check Engine Light

Morning All, I have a 98 Sti -R. Been running great for a couple of years, this morning however, the "CHECK ENGINE" light came on.
It still runs perfectly, the engine is still there after checking it!!!!!

All oil and water levels are ok and the temps are good.

Can I turn the light off by disconnecting and re-connecting the battery, or is a trip to the Clinic??

Any help would be much appreciated.

Stevo.

Disconnect the battery to reset, if it comes back on I believe the 98> should be OBD compliant so most garages can read out the code for you

I had this on my newage recently after it had been stood a week in pouring rain. The car managed to run all its checks properly within a week and the light went out on its own. Not seen again as yet!

Default Enngine Check Light

Fantastic, that helps a lot. I'll disconnect the battery and see if that cures it. To be far it also has been sat since friday in the rain, so maybe it is the same.
I'll keep you posted.
Cheers

Went out to disconnect the battery, but before I did thought I'd check the light. The bloomin thing had gone out. So I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope it doesn't come back.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Personally, given its a 98, I would connected the two green connectors together and checked the error code.

If you ever need to rest the ECU/CEL you don't need to disconnect the battery, just connect the two black and two green connectors under the steering column.

A really, if you get a CEL light up, then you probably want to know why.
