Advice please-WRX standard cd player
I have ordered a WRX which I hope will be delivered in March. Iv`e heard that the standard cd/radio is rubbish and sounds "tinny".
I don`t expect a works standard set up to be up to a great deal from any manufacturer, but has anyone any comments on the standard unit or can advise on any reasonably priced alternative (preferably a factory fitted unit).
Any constructive comments would be appreciated as I can change the spec before delivery.

I've got the standard + 6 cd autochanger option. No problems so far except front passenger door speaker has minor noticeable buzz with bassy tracks / high volume. Get them to fit the autochanger somewhere sensible!
I have got the standard CD player but with MB Quartz speakers. They do improve the sound a lot but the CD player has'nt really got enough power to get the full potential.
you are slightly limited for size aswell especially in the rear doors

Hi
Difficult to achieve anything really meaningfull with the standard kit (depends very much on what you are looking for).
- Replacement speakers all round is a must. The standard stuff is rubbish.
- More amplification. Something like 50w RMS / chan. is "adequate".
- Decent 6 CD changer mounted in boot under the back parcel shelf is probably the best place.
- A remote control is very handy. Mine is mounted behind the parking brake handle and display (track readout etc.) just under the ash tray. If you buy the right sort, then you can connect the standard headunit into the control unit for the remote. That way you can still use the radio etc. but now with some decent amplification.
- A subwoofer in the boot also helps to reinforce the bass.
Speakers £150/200, amp £100/150, remote £100, 6CD player £150/200 and subwoofer £100/150 (assuming one of the self powered jobies). £100 to fit. £700/900 and you now have a more than adequate system. All depends on what you want and what you want to pay. The sky's the limit for in car entertainment.
O'hum... I could ramble for ages on this topic.
Mind you, I suppose this is really posted in the wrong place.
Enjoy........................

Is it just me? The standard CD player in my UK300 is absolutely rubbish. It jumps like buggery, especially going around roundabouts and when switching the indicators on!!! First job for me this year is to get a decent CD/Minidisc player fitted.

I took delivery of a UK MY01 WRX three weeks ago and must say that the radio/cd is very good. There is plenty of bass and good adjustment of the treble, I have had no problems with CD skipping. I had a Seat Ibiza Cupra 20V Turbo before and the stereo was really bad in that.
