Problems shifting between 2nd and 3rd?
Hey all,
I drive an 02 PPP'd WRX. Since I've had it I've noticed that, under strain, it can sometimes be difficult to shift from 2nd to 3rd. When I say strain, I mean 7K+ RPM..
I just had a fantastic race off the lights against a Carrera S.. We were literally neck and neck until I shifted into third, at which point I had trouble and he zoomed off ahead.. It's not like it wont go in at all, it just feels like you have to be really precise with the gear stick to change it, which can mean it takes an extra 2-3 seconds to engage it. It's hard to explain.
Anyway, is this a problem? It only happens between 2nd and third, all other gears seem fine.

funny you should say that about the wrx I get that also in my MY05 sti!!!! we both must be cr*p drivers
I do occasionally get it nailed but as you say I have to seemingly ping the clutch and shift the stick precisely or i get the same issue. Admittedly I run 340bhp through my gearbox so I think in my case I am approaching the limits of the std gearbox maybe so harder to engage the plates?
I don't to be honest really nail mine that often to the limiter, only usually to air it out once a week while joining the motorway, so don't practice 'ragging' it that often to get 'good' but you are not alone.

Aye, I have done that a couple of times so that's 3 ****e drivers! I'm getting a quick shift fitted to see if it helps as don't find the Impreza gear box as smooth or short as my old 350z.
