Default AAAAHHH! Jesus these cars do my head in!! Simple question.

If due to an oil leak a piston on an STI JDM melts, i donīt know to what degree aren,t you supposed to replace all 4 pistons and ring sets along with crank shells too and if your really lucky get the scored bore honed clean again????

Someone please enlighten me as the argument iīm having (Theoretical) is really pi55ing me off !!!

While the engine is in biots for 1 piston, you may as well sort out everything you can.

It's a simple job - a 4 cylinder Boxer engine rebuild should hold no fears for anyone who has basic Engineering/DIY skills .......

Hardest part is Engine In/Out ....

Thankyou guys, but that doesnīt really answer my question.

I understand in theory its best practice but....

My mate insists that all four have to be done even if they are not damaged. I told him that was bollocks but he wasnīt having none of of it.

it depends if the piston has scored the cylinder,if it has you will need to have it resleeved or a rebore then u will need to do all 4 so they all match...if not i would just put the 1 in

You don't HAVE to do it, unless it needs rebored, sleeved etc, but think about it: if you had the gearbox out for some reason, would you not take the chance to change the clutch/release bearing? I know I would. So if the engine is in bits, replace any parts that have been wearing since new, and all oil seals etc.

Like i pointed out, i obviously don't have the vast knowledge you have of Subarus. I was not aware a P1 was anything like an STI Prodrive.

Maybe i will be as knowledgable as you one day, but hopefully i will only inherit the knowledge and not your arrogance.

Unless there's something weird with my eyes, he said "1" - "one" - as in one piston, not "P1".
