Advice on buying a JDM Newage STI
Will be looking to trade my WRX for a Jap Spec Newage STI shortly. Just after some advice of what to look for and how to go about it. Will probably purchase through the trade so no doubt a lot of the initial red tape import duty docs etc will have already been already cut? Im also aware that rear foglights will need to be fitted.
Any advice would be helpful.
Finally do i need the map adjusting for UK Fuel, and what are the insurance companies stance now a days on insuring imports which used to be an issue?
Thanks

In answer to the first part of your question there are a few reputable firms around who will make sure all the above is done regarding paper work and registration. And they should also have the foglight refitted in either the rear cluster or flush in the bumper (not hanging off).
The newage ecu's are very advanced and can easily retard them self's to run on v power (99 ron) if you decide t carry out mods such as a decat then a remap would be advised .As for insurance it's just not a problem anymore all major insurers will insure imports, but you will be better of with a specialist such as keith michaels, pace ward or a plan.

Many thanks for the advice, yes I agree the fog light is much better within the main rear light cluster than hanging off the rear bumper like a 70's Ford Capri. Im also currently insured with Keith Michaels so thats a bonus also, just need to find a good one now!
Cheers for the advice!

The key to buying any scooby is to find a clean, well looked after example with all reciepts/service records etc.
