Default pennine subaru-hebden bridge

My husband has just bought a subaru-impreza WRX, we have been advised to get the cam belt and pulleys replaced as it an import and the guy we got it from has scanty service history, the car is an M reg and has done 135000km. We were going to take it to a local garage but have been told about"pennine subaru" which is near to us in Hebden bridge. Does anyone know anything about them? I have spoken to the owner who was very helpful. He also told me they will also relace an oil seal at the same time-accessable only when cam belt being done, Cost £8 and no extra labour and not something the other garage seemed to know about. Also is there an easy way to alter the speedometer to MPH from Kilometres?? Thanks in anticipation

i have bought parts from them and the service was impeccable.

you pays your money, and you takes your chance.

A simple convertor inserted in the speedo cable (I'm assuming an early car here) will do the job for you, it's just a little gearbox changing the drive ratio to the speedo head.

Chy is an excellent mapper !!

Pennine also built the current 2.5 engine in my Race car they are currently building another for me too.

You will need an electronic speedo converter, as follows:

SUBARU SPEEDO CONVERTER / DELIMTER / KMH TO MPH on eBay, also, Subaru, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 09-Nov-08 17:23:57 GMT)

Chy is one great bloke, his knowledge in all things subaru is top notch, as is the service he provides and value for money. He put in an organic sports clutch in my 04 blob. Also one day when i popped down for a chat he spent an hour just giving me loads of info on impreza's and mods and even did a free obd check for me whilst explaining what everything ment! highly recommended and i will be using him v.soon when i buy my hawkeye as i work at the school just up the road from Pennine!

He is an awesome mapper too.

You can't mate, there a Pennine speciality , based on 2l closed deck block machined and fitted with custom liners, 2.5 crank and stroker pistons. End result is a 2.5cdb with all the benfits of a 2l cdb (strengh/suport at top of liners) and the torque of a 2.5.

Some pics in here mate of a 2.5 built engine:

This chy fella is a complete clown, he mapped up my wrx, and 2 days later the gear box was in bits, he tried to blame me for driving it to hard, what in 2 days?,then he chrarged me again for another gear box, which lasted a couple on months, then the p**ck chrarged me again for a PPG road race box which when i went to collect it was grinding when changing gear, so had to take it back again, this guy totally ripped me off, i should have never of paid him, and oh yeah never got any reciepts atall, totally unprofessional, you have been warned, i mean just look at his premises, looks like steptoes back yard, oh and get this, nearly forgot this one, i asked him if he could meet with the car as i was so fed up taking it back after his mistakes,i had to stay in a hotel one night after breaking down when he fitted the PPG box, when i asked if he could meet me, he said i will see what i can do , i have child care?...what has that got to do with me??..this guy cleared me out and left me really unhappy

To be fair, what has mapping a car got to do with your gearbox breaking? Of course he should charge to fix your gearbox.....if he worked on the gearbox etc, then he would be liable! But has he didn't, in my eyes it isn't his fault!

If you read what i said, basically he mapped my car and it was to highly tuned and the gear box couldn't take it, he should have known this as he is the so called specialist, so ok what about the next one he fitted out of and sti, 6 speed box, after a couple of months it went, oh and your meant to changed the diff, it hadn't been touched, then i paid him for PPG, when i picked it u i got out of his premises and it would not run properly, something to do with wiring, just couldnt drive it, so had to ring the aa and take it back to chy as he wasnt there, then i had to go back again, when the car got warm ir was grinding when changing gear, believe me im not making it up, he ripped me off bigtime

Were you buying new gearboxes or 2nd hand ones?

Why did you keep going back to him if you felt he was not doing a good job?

The sti gear box was second hand, but the PPG was brand new, i had to go back there as he had fitted the gear box's so thats what you normally do , im sure this guy knows how to strip and rebuild engine, but my experience was shocking

Im not just saying that to disagree with what stuwall has said.
That was my experience of penine.
When some more mods need doing i will be taking my car back there!
