I've contributed here for 4+ years, and mostly help people if I can. Often I do the search on behalf of others and now I can't, so simply won't bother. My post count is surely going to dwindle, as is the help I attempt to give others. The other function I use greatly is NEW POSTS as I am often on during the night when posting is light and it's easier to view every new post than troll through every relevant forum. I won't be doing that now either. Time for me to move on maybe. I sold the car a long time ago and can't see me getting another as my sensible head makes the economy and depreciation of these fantastic cars quite ridiculous. I'll still pop in but won't be saying much. Ta-ta for now

Hi Paul
No, as the advertisign income is ongoing revenue which pays for each page load, rather than simply for the site to be here.
On that subject though, seeing as the scoobynet plus membership is based on an ongoing revenue basis, I am looking at introducing the ability to switch the adverts off for plus members. At £2 a month, or less if you pay for a year in advance, that's pretty good value I reckon.
Remember, a Full Member upgrade is a one-off payment, not an ongoing cost.
All the best

YOU CAN STILL SEARCH
My only thought is that maybe you could introduce a smilie that says 'SIAL' because without the search function you're gonna get thousands of reposts

No I appreciate that five pounds isn't a lot to ask to be able to search (among other things) but for those that don't want to pay it, they will repost over and over again.
I'm not moaning so much as I am highlighting a potential 'issue'
Oh hang on.......................

Right, look <-----------------------
I wasn't suggesting that I wasn't going to upgrade just that for those that didn't want to, this is the issue.
And FWIW Webby, I understand why you have to do such things, I just wondered if there might be another alternative

What I'm trying to say is. The problem you are highlighting isn't a problem.
Newbies can still search. In fact, they are probably even more likely to find the correct answer if they put in decent terms as google's algorythms are 1000's of times better than ours.
Please give me any example where this would cause a problem.
PS. Thank you very much for your support

You're more than welcome for the support
I have benefitted from this site for a few years myself so I believe its worth it. I actually think its worth more but I won't get into that!!!
I honestly can't give you an example, I guess only time will tell. I hope it won't be an issue but I fear that some will just post what they want without using the features of this site.
Keep up the great work, WE DO appreciate it...... well most of us do

The problem is that quite a number of people don't use the search, as the same questions do get asked time and time again, so i dont really think that will be an issue
I was a plus member already (4th year running now) and I have paid the extra tenner, and like I have said previously its cost me about 80 quid in total and yet I have well had my moneys worth, and things can/will only get better in the long term the more people that help to support the site
I imagine realistically currently this is Simon with his 'yacht' sailing into a CORNER
However this is how people perceive Simon to be with his 'yacht' and the money making enterprise that everyone believes SN to be
When all said and done, EVERYONE can still search, if they want a better inbuilt search its a fiver, just drive to work 1k rpm less and you will have saved that fiver
