Speed Trap POIs on GPS in France
Hi all
Im very aware that our friendly gendarmes in France keep an eye out for Road Angels and the such like, and when spotting them, removeing the item and in some cases destroying on the spot.
Ive got a TomTom 910 with speed trap POIs on. Will they have a look and remove the unit? Or am I safer just taking them off for the trip?
Cheers

Supposed to be 100% illlegal in France to have GPS based systems if they have French cameras plotted.. but other folks say they are OK ? I wouldn't risk it.
usually a €500 fine.

I was uder the impression that radar detectors are illegal in France, but GPS based systems are ok. Certainly been using my TomTom with POIs for the past 4-5 years.
There is a good (French based) website that may be able to confirm the exact legal status here. GpsPasSion Forums

Last time I was over, there were ads in a French paper for GPS based ones. I verified that they are NOT illegal with a neighbour, but the DETECTORS are.
However, some laws in France are very strange. it's not illegal to SELL flick-knives, for excample, but it IS illegal to buy one

AFAIK only the Inforad make of GPS based detectors are legal in France. Don't know about Tom Tom and other navigation systems. AFAIK they can't do anything with the fixed cameras in any case as they have no access to DVLA.
Handheld devices are another matter!!
