I am thinking of fitting a strut brace to my my98 uk car on standard suspension.
Can anybody tell me if it is worth while, does it make any difference to road holding, tyre wear on 16" and overall grip.

A strut brace was the best £30 I have spent on my car. Reduced understeer, and made cornering 'firmer'. Works especially well with Prodrive settings.

I haven't had any uneven tyre wear.

Arron,
Go for a carbon fibre one about £400.00 from graham goode, (should stiffen up the front end better than any other as c/f is the strongest and lightest component availible, but not cheap.)

Front strut brace really just looks good - however, in a wagon the rear strut brace is apparantly quite benficial....

I have an alloy Sparco one in my car.
Only cost £55, looks the biz, and does the job.

Problem is most of these Strut braces have a weak point in them, only the TSL one looks strong enough to me...and lovely thought the Sti one looks, it is a little flexible

Tim.
Where's the weak point in the Sparco alloy one then? Agreed, the TSL/Forge one looks gorgeous, but is that the main reason you buy a brace? (It is for people like Puff! )
I thought Sparco were quite good at making things like this, that's all.

Question

Why pay 400 odd quid for a carbon fibre one when other sell the proper Sti ally ones for noticeably less than that?

Stef, the weak link is in the adjuster...if it has be fitted in the cross strut you could find a concentration of forces which may allow for some flex.

On the TSL/Forge piece of kit you adjust on the strut mounting ends where it bolts to the top mount.

As you say it's a lovely bit of kit, just too expensive I want one

What price should a carbon fibre strut brace go for? I paid £125 for mine (same as pic above), it is absolutely mint. A good buy I thought.

Scotty.

PS: 2nd hand of course
