Default Question about STi spoiler on a WRX...

Right, I love my new car, love the look, but have to say I think the high level spoiler of the STi is much more pleasing to the eye...

So.... Do people think saddo, wanna be STi etc when they see a WRX with one on ?? lol

Im pretty sure I will end up doing it, along with a Prodrive carbon front lip.
That will do me I reckon.

just wanted opinions on the spoiler situation.

PS my love for the look comes from the RB320

Just my opinion but I always think STI wanna be... but saying that, I saw one last weekend and the bloke had changed the alloys too and I didn't notice it wasn't an STI until he told me. It looked good.

Also, I had the dickie bow tie spoiler on my STI originally, it being a spec D, and the upgraded spoiler suits it much better IMO. Basically, think about a new set of alloys as well if you are gonna fork out for a spoiler and a lip spoiler.

Fair play mate.
Plan is not to emulate an STi, if I had actually wanted one, I would have bought one, simple really lol.
Just prefer this one piece of it, the rest is fine by me

I know there is a common "wannabe" view that goes round about it, so wanted to see how bad it was before taking the plunge.
The alternative is the Prodrive one from the GB280, but I think I prefer the STi one.

It's your car mate, so it's up to you. It is something I am considering at the moment for mine. If you consider though, it is just as likely to get an STI with the low level spoiler, which I have seen quite a few of in the autotrader recently, that's not an STI wanting to be a WRX now is it!

Good point.

I guess each respective spoiler is just associated with a particular spec of car when I suppose you can put anything on either. Personally, I like the one I have as it is somewhere inbetween the low and high level... there's always one eh...

Thats the one on the 280 mate
I do like that one, just not seen it in black yet, so not entirely sure
Would be nice to be different, yet still happy with it.

Whats the rear view like ?

Had to ?? What happened dare I ask?

Just want something to set the rear end off.
Oh and different rear clusters too, I HATE mine lol.
Are the STi ones different again, or is it just certain models/ages that got the non lexus look ?

It doesn't really effect the rear view too much. You do have a blind spot in the distance where the top of the spoiler is but you rarely have need to look that far back and simply adjusting your angle solves that.

I did think someone was following me for the first week or so as it keeps catching the corner of your eye when you look around, but you soon get used to it.

It kept coming loose because it didnt fit in the original 4 wrx holes, i would of had to drill holes in the boot which i wasnt prepared to do. drmotorsport say theirs fits in the 4 original holes and no drilling is required so i will get my next one from them.

Haha I did similar when I hung a magic tree air freshener in my old one. Kept catching my eye and I thought someone was there when I checked my blind spot. Soon moved it

Jay, aaah I see mate. I will prob get one from Subaru tbh, and get it fitted. Unless I go the Prodrive route. Might get the spoiler and lip at the same time

If you only change the spoiler then I can't see why people would assume you are wanting to turn yout car into an STI, if you change everything else and add STI stickers then they have a point.

I like the look of a WRX with a STI style spoiler, I think they look better with the smaller scoops that you get on the WRX. I'd do it, but the wife would leave me, i'm going to wait a few years before I order mine

Fair play mate
Its one of the reasons I changed the front bumper on my Vectra, I liked the late SRi one, and when people said use the GSi one, I said no cos its not a GSi, but also didnt like it anyway lol. Had I liked it I might have used it.

no plans for stickers, light covers etc at ANY point.
3 people obviously frown already, looking at the poll

It's your car mate, enjoy it and to hell with what others think!

Big spoilers tend to be a bit of a magnet for the Corsa brigade though, so you might want to take that into account. In some ways it's much more satisying to have a wolf in sheeps clothing!

big spoilers dont do alot for me.

hence why my spec-c is coming without one, and it will stay that way!

But.... like said, its your car, do what makes you happy!

I like the big STi spoiler too, can't stand the ironing board on the WRX.

I voted OK, i think it is. I'd do the same myself.

As long as you don't start getting STi badges and stickers.

The one I saw was debadged, so didn't claim to be an STI but didn't claim not to... I thought it was

Mikkel, I think the spoiler is actually marginally larger then the standard STi one........

Snazy, Like Mikkel I have the same spoiler on a Spec D. IMHO the visibility is better with the standard STi spoiler. My previous car was a WR1 and I never found the rear spoiler much of a problem with visibility. Where as I find this spoiler creates a blind spot that hides a car following you at 'normal' distance, I find it a pain in the proverbial as I like to know what is behind me......

Otherwise I obviously like the look of it or I wouldn't have ordered the car with it fitted.

Forgot to add the spoiler also requires stronger springs over a low level one to compensate for the extra weight

Is that right? I thought it was marginally smaller than the standard STI... ah well, perhaps it just looks that way due to the design.

I was parked up next to an STI the other day and I did think it looked lower mind, might be wrong though.

I just cancelled my order for an sti wing for my WRX PPP......decided after fitting the 18" alloys that the roof vane of the hawkeye combined with the standard wrx wing would be slightly more unique......so just need to fit it now...

Paul,

You cant fit the roof vane to a WRX.... I ordered a roof vane for my Spec D and it couldn't be fitted as the normal STi bodyshell has strengthening in the C pillar to take it which cannot be retro fitted.

I was told fitting it without the strengthening would invalidate my warranty as the downforce generated by the roof vane would be likely to damage the car.

Sorry to break the bad news

Robin
