well, it's been nearly 2 months, the car is superb, but the company i bought it from ..................it took them 2 months to deliver an "in stock" vehicle with excuse after excuse, (yes yes, hindsight and all that)....i still have yet to receive the V5 or the service book, the V5 is not a major issue, but the service book is, i spoke to subaru UK customer service (in name only, as the miserable git actually said, "well things like this will go wrong with imports, and you expect us to sort it out" ) so as it stands, i have no warranty, the car has not been registered with subaru UK (IM automotive), and they will not register it until i have the service book..............................so, dont ever EVER purchase a vehicle from buyacar.co.uk, you have been warned....

If you've bought an EU import, then it could all be ok. My service book took several months to arrive although I got the V5 promptly. Other people also had to wait for their service books when buying from another well known importer.

I hope you've had the 1 month/1000mile service done already. You'll have to go back to get your book stamped when it arrives.

my mind is slightly at rest, thanks mark, btw what is involved with the 1000m service, is it just an oil & filter, and if so about £80 ish ?

just come off the phone from CVC cardiff £142.36 for an oil & filter FFS my lexus was cheaper and they don't supply a courtesy car! nice. looks like an independant will be doing my servicing then.....(am i getting paranoid, or does the mere mention of 'euro-import' get their backs up)

is fully synth ok for the 1000m service as there seems to be much debate as to whether fully or semi synth is best for a new engine...

At least you will be getting your car serviced properly and not by a trained chimp.

I would trust my car with a good independant specialist (Subaru4you, Scoobyclinic etc etc) over main dealer every time.

I think you should get the V5 soon after purchase (within 6 weeks) - the importer should register it with DVLA for you and then they send the V5 to you.

The service book will come from the original supplying dealer (e.g. in Malta, if that's where the importer sourced it). Once you have the service book and V5 then Subaru UK should register it.

I would have 1000mi service done at a Subaru agent to avoid future warranty hassle. I hear they charge about £80 for parts (oil & filter & sump washer) plus labour - so £100-150 is believable. I would ring a few dealers to get quotes.
I think semi-synth is the stuff to use until everything is well bedded in (10kmi or more).

Sounds about right. I paid about £140 for the 1k service, but have gone to independent specialists for all work after that. The Subaru dealer put Castrol Magnatec (!) in at 1k, but I switched to fully synth for the next change.

ive just bought an 06 sti that originally came from them my service book doesnt have the first stamp as it hadnt arrived, but ive the receipt in the service book and subaru uk said that should be ok. Mine was never registered with them ive just done it in the last few weeks
