Default Mudflaps?

Hello,

My first post here, so be gentle with me.

I've owned my STI spec d for a few months now and am considering putting black prodrive mudflaps on and was wondering what you all thought of them. I don't want to look too chav... but don't like too understated.

I'll post a photo of my car later, but basically it is the standard grey spec d, but with an upgraded prodrive wing (I've not seen another like it to be honest - previous owner fitted it - looks like an STI wing but more angular and a tad smaller) and has been rebadged as an STI.

So discreeter than a standard STI but by no means discreet.

Cheers,

Michael

Hi Michael, getting my Spec D soon and I am not sure about flaps. If its no longer discreet and has the PD rear wing I would go for black performance creations flaps.

I know what you mean by the chavvy worries, ill be honest, the car I want is an Evo7 but at this minute in time I cannot afford to run one (just had a daughter) so along comes a scooby to the rescue.

Their are some crac king Subaru's out there, its just a shame that they've been ruined by the odd few, mudflaps.....mmm....I dunno, if you think they look chavvy then odds are you might already have your answer mate

Mudflaps don't do it for me. Leave the spec D as "discreet" as possible IMO.

EVERY Impreza should have Flaps on in my opinion! I don't think they look chavy.

Mikkel,

Have a look at the pictures of my car in "View My Scooby" it is a similar spec to yours with the Prodrive rear wing and I also have the Prodrive mudflaps and an Sti front splitter.

I can send you more pics if you PM me an email address.

Kind regards,

Robin

Cheers everyone.

Robin you have convinced me, your car is beautiful. I like the front splitter you have on there too, do you mind me asking how much that cost and where you got it fitted?

Are many of those prodrive wings knocking about by the way? Yours and mine are the only two I have seen.

I like the rally sport look but am just not a very ostentatious person, I think that's what I meant by not wanting to look too chavvy. The standard spec d just wasn't enough for me, whilst the gold wheels etc of a standard STI was just a bit over the top for what I wanted.

Mikkel,

I recently put genuine Prodrive black flaps on my Spec D. I had blue ones on my 03 WRBlue wrx and only after fitting them did I realise how much they save the side of the car from stone chips and crap being thrown up.

So in my opinion, yes. Go with the Prodrive black flaps. They are quite subtle and don't look chavvy in my opinion. If you can hang on a couple of days, I'll take some decent photos so you can see exactly what they look like. I got mine off someone on here selling them for a friend, brand new and boxed. May be worth putting a request out.

I can also whole heartedly recommend putting on a front lip too. I got mine in the Revolution group buy and it has transformed the cars front end from looking high and unfinished to a nice, subtle sporty looking front. I was amazed how much difference such a minor addition can make. Again, I'll get some decent pics sorted in the next day or two.

And seeing as there's only 300 of us, don't forget to add your name to this list:

Cheers Nige.

What's this group buying thing I've heard mentioned a few times on here? I'm assuming it's some way of getting discount on bulk orders?

Hi there,

Thanks for that, glad you like it. I know exactly what you mean about liking the look but not wanting the gold wheels look. That was partly why I liked my WR1, which this Spec D replaced after it was nicked by scumbags. Hence why I have the spoilers and Prodrive wheels - the same style as on the WR1 - to get the same sort of look.

The front splitter came from the supplying dealer Cross Roads, the car as you see it is how it looked when I picked it up brand new. I could have got the same look for less but on the other hand as everything is all on the original dealer invoice it is all classed as 'dealer fitted options' hence the insurance is lower than making the changers later. It is a genuine Sti front splitter and I think it was about £250.

I am off to France later for Le Mans so there may be no more replies from me till next week.

Regards,

Robin

I put black prodive mudflaps on my blue MY05 STI. The main reason I did was because I couldn`t believe the scratches resulting from stones being thrown up from the wheels. The flaps have more of less stopped this happening. I think the prodrive ones are fairly discreet as they are the same colour as the tyres. A word of warning though - if you are putting them on yourself and haven`t done so before be prepared for a whole days work and a lot of swearing! The instructions aren`t very clear and it involves taking all the wheels off. Once you`ve done the first one though it gets easier. And its worth it in the end because it improves the look of the car in my opinion.

Del is right that they are tricky if you've not done them before. I managed to do mine without taking the wheels off, but used my flexi wrists and a lot of lying under the car. The other thing I noticed was that the brackiets are not a perfect fit at the back as they were on my '03 wrx. It took a bit of inginuity and lining up by eye to do the rears.

100% agree on the stones being thrown up too.

I have a set of prodrive front mudflaps in black for sale, never fitted.
I bought them for my 2007 WRX wagon but they won't fit a wagon as it has a different wheel arch to the 4-dr.
Let me know if you want them.

Being the tight Northern git I am, when I saw the price of the genuine prodrive mud flaps I almost had kittens! So... I made my own, what do you think?

Black mud flaps from scoobyworld and prodrive stickers from ebay. Only time and bad weather will tell how long they last of course...
