Shouldn't the MY02 STI be the version 8?

Hi all,
Query. Since the MY00 STI was the version 6, and there was a MY01 STI which Japan got, the version 7, shouldn't the new STI MY02 be the version 8?
I know Europe didn't get the MY01 STI officially or any earlier STI versions. Why is the MY02 STI refered to as the version 7 then?
