Is there a law that says fuel filler cap needs to be external?

I know a couple of lads with rally prepared cars and they have fuel tanks/cells in the boot, with a filler neck in the boot too.
The cars are MOT'd, so I guess that is legal.
I'd question whether you can just re-route the filler from your "normal" petrol tank into the boot, but you really need to check in the Road vehicles (Construction And Use) 1986 legislation. May take a while though!
The regulations currently require that fuel tanks must be constructed and maintained in such a manner that neither liquid nor vapour can escape from them.
PM Alyn Stockton at AS Performance (He's Stockcar on Scoobynet).....he has plenty of experience with rally preparation, so he may know the score.

Some of the Older Porches of the late 70's and early 80's are in the front boot.
I am fairly sure some supercars are internal as well.

my mate has his on the inside of the door panel, as long as it passes MOT then it's legal!
might get a few dodgy looks, they used to turn the pump off when he was trying to fill up - had to go in to explain he wasnt pouring petrol all over his seat LOL

I have the filler in the boot in the 7 - just be aware that it will end up stinking! No matter how hard you try a few drips end up missing the filler cap (mine is mounted in the "floor" of the boot)
