Question Impreza Sport queries

Hi I have just bought an Impreza 2.0 Sport in Daytona yellow and absolutely love it! A couple of questions though:

1/ What is the recommended service interval?

2/ I have never been keen on fuel injection and automatic choke . I would therefore like to convert to carburettor and manual choke. Does anyone know if Weber do a conversion kit? I would prefer Stromberg carbs but I am not sure there would be enough clearance under the bonnet (though I suppose I could put a scoop on from the Turbo models to clear them).

3/ What mpg can I expect to get once converted? I would hope an increase of say 2 -3 mpg would be possible at the expense of a slight decrease in throttle response.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Thanks friend, but I have already tried there, they don't have the same number of knowledgable members this site seems to have. You are not suggesting that I am not welcome because my car isn't the Turbo model are you?

Should I be considering getting a turbo from ebay and bolting it on.

Get a pair of sidedraft Dellorto carbs off ebay and fit them. For a bit more power bolt a turbo onto the carbs. It'll go like a bomb.

I am amazed no one else had performed a conversion to carburettors, they are much more efficient at delivering extra BHP

Its a 2000 model in Lemon Yellow. I bought it from my usual secondhand cars sales place. I was after another Ford but the salesman recommended the Impreza when I said I wanted carburettors, he said Subaru's are highly "modifyable". My previous Ford Orion 1.4 Ghia had served me well for 20 years but failed its MOT. The Weber carbs were still going strong though

I had my eye on a Focus but the bloke said carbs were not an option.

No I haven't had chance to take any photographs yet and then i will have to get them developed at Boots and then get my nephew to scan them with his printer thingy, so it may be a few weeks. I am not into this digital camera thing I prefer to use my Minolta 35mm

Might I ask why you want to put carbs and a manual choke on a performance saloon? Why don't you get on with fuel injection and auto choke?

First of all apologies for the delay in responding I had to repair a leak on the header tank over tank on the toilet, spent all day trying to find a compatible ballcock, they are all designed for modern flush systems, and I can't cope with that design, I prefer to pull a chain to flush

Anyway back onto the subject and I cannot bring myself to own a fuel injected car, far too complicated. I want to:

1/
a. Make the decision WHEN to pull the choke in, not a wait for a pig thick computer chip to make the decision
b. Regularly strip down the carb to clean it - very theraputic after a month of commuting in heavy traffic

2/ Carry out my own oil changes

3/ Do my own maintenance and repair. Quite difficult when the engine is managed by a computer chip. I want to make the decisions with my engine thanks.

I think you might have been better off with a Hillman Imp. Propper old school car with plenty of modifying potential if old school is your thing.

All newish cars have ECU's so the only way is back.

Hear what you are saying there but I do actually desire a degree of safety in a car and a bit of overtaking potential, an Hillman Imp wouldn't provide that and is way too small for me (I am a large chap ). The Impreza Sport took my eye and to be honest I was fooled by the car salesman into thinking the car can be modified. I have been back today to vent my spleen and he still claims the car is highly modifyable. I challenged him on this and he said well, you can chip it, fit a turbo, put on WRX style rostyle gold wheels, fit a large whale tail aerfoil on the boot and maybe a set of colour keyed mudflaps. Great lot of use that is to me

Anyway, looks like I am stuck with fuel injection

What would the cost be to transplant an engine from a spent WRX? I understand there are plenty at the breakers yards in the UK as they tend to get thrashed and crashed by yoofs (so I am told _ )

Interesting thread this. It has all the hallmarks of Brother Lewis and yet lacks his panache and wit

In summary it cannot be Pete
