Whats this (description on classic)
Right! Under the drivers side dash by the pedals, there are 2 connectors. One has a black connector (male and female) with 1 lead coming from it. I think one is red/black and the other may be a green lead.
The other connector is bright green, again male and female bit with 2 leads coming from each side.
What are they for? Neither were connected. When I connected them, I'm sure the engine ran smoother but the engine warning light flashed on and off!
needless to say I stopped and unplugged them again!

They are for performing an ECU check/fault reading and reset.
Usually the green and black connectors are left unattached.
Have a look here how to perform it, can save you a lot of money then using a dealer to check for faults
