Default smoking brakes !

went for a blat on Sunday, got back and smoke was coming out of the front wheel arches!

a couple of steady miles stopped it - presumably cooled the brakes down.

never had this before - any thoughts? only difference between last summer and this warm spell, is Ive fitted a front lip spoiler. would this make a difference?

car is 05 STi by the way.

I did that just a few days after new pads were fitted. I was on a country road, plenty corners, and digging deep on the brakes. I could smell them from inside the car so got out for an inspection, smoke curling from both front wheels.

I just eased off and drove home gently, no problems.

Yeah, that tends to happen when you are having some fun. I've just gone through those problems, poor pads were my problem. Have new ones on now and things are a lot better.

You also may have burnt the dust seals on the calipers, they can smoke pretty well when you have fun.

You call that hot brakes? YouTube - Porsche 911 turbo's brakes catch fire at knockhill
is hot brakes

Seriously, a bit of hard driving and braking can get brakes smoking. I lost my brakes completely on a Dolomite Sprint years ago after a blast

When I eventually came to a halt (in a field ) the front discs were glowing red hot
