Scam for buying cars??? Urgent 4 May 07
Hi
I have advertsided my car for sale in E&M for £3,250 and within 5 hours have had probably 10 calls all from, shall we say, people from the Indian continent all offering £2,500.
I then get a call from someone a long way off willing to pay £2,800 cash with no questions and not having seen the car but will take about 4 hours to get here.
This was followed very shortly by someone willing to pay the full price in cash and who wants to come over this evening.
Whilst this should be seen as good news, it all sounds a bit fishy and too good to be true.
Has anyone experienced this before?
Is there a load of dodgy £50 notes out there?
Any recommendations?

Make sure you meet at somewhere other than your address such as shopping cenre car park if you meet with them to be on the safe side. Take a friend for security.

Did you note down phone numbers? You can always say "I've got someone else coming to look but if they don't buy I'll call you back, what's your landline number?" and see what response you get.
Looks promising, depends how keen you are to sell as to what conditions you impose on the sale.

If they pay cash, take it to a bank and get it paid into your account with them there too, if that's okay then they can take the car.
I think I'm right that even if the cash then turns out to be moody you'll be okay.

I started noting the mobile numbers after 5 or 6 calls but it will probably be too late for a landline number.
It's all happening too quickly!
I've spoken with the police and they are not aware of anything but have logged it.
My wife has popped out to borrow a counterfeit note checker from where she works which should put my mind at rest as to the state of the cash.
Maybe I'm being paranoid!

Check for all the relevant watermarks and foils etc. I use a 'magic' pen on notes to see if they are fake. You can pick them up for pennies on Ebay. Get them to bring plenty of id too.

How stupid is that? Apparently, the £50 notes do not have a UV security patch like the £20s, £10s and £5s.
Still not turned up. I'm hoping it's bank holiday traffic and not a potential late night visit whilst in bed.

Mate you are not paranoid, do everything you can to protect your property.
i was selling my quad, got a call from a guy very interested said he had one before and was chatting, asked for postcode and address so that he could come over to see it, as most people do, i said you must get here before 6.00 cos I got to pop out ( stupid) 6.15 nobody here, so I go out, Now I take my 2 guard dogs with me in my van for a ride out ( stupid )
Had a bad fealing whilst out that something wasnt right, so head back.
Sick fealing in the bottom of my stomach when I arrive home.
My BMW car was missing from the drive and garage door where my quad was stored wide open.
Got into the house and they had been through the house, my laptop, digital camera, money etc and all the keys to my motorbike and vans all gone.
So dont tell anybody not to be paranoid ! it happens. thieving scum like this need there fingers cut off, and then they will not reoffend

I've not had that before but had the email contact wanting to buy both the cars I have recently advertised not mentioning make or model. Will pay asking price and will collect for shipping abroad, sounds sus right away. I replied to the guy, I have 4 cars to sell which is he interested in, he replied, all of your cars, give me your bank details, name and address and I'll transfer the money.
Yea right
May as well asked for my wife and kids also

now thats dodgy
a person can just knock your dooor - no one home - your robbed. im mean if you advertise your vehicle for sale you should expect your phone to ring thats what you pay for. I wouldnt inform the police 'hey my advertising is working' good vehicle right price your phone will ring hot

Nice to know you all think it's a bargain. Exchange & Mart : Subaru Impreza WRX Turbo Saloon 1999, £3,250
Its been here for a while and only got one call from Wales. https://www.scoobynet.com/private-sa...e-gc8f48d.html
I must be getting paranoid as I had someone from Orange phone me tonight asking for my Bank details over the phone in order to set up a direct debit - that was OK wasn't it?

the for sale section on this site is crazy...! you can advertise an item and within hours its on the 2nd/3dr page.... Which is why people are always 'bumping' threads - Seriously though it sounds a good car at a VERY good price hence the high number of calls....
Raf.
so.... £3k..??
