Default Customs charging for exhaust?

I bought a blitz nur spec rx exhaust from nengun in Japan, and see from the tracking details that it has been subject to customs charges. It has not yet been delivered, but should be here tomorrow.

There would have been no invoice attached to the parcel, so how do they calculate what to charge? I'm trying to get an idea of how much I'm about to be stung for....

Do you think it's 20% of the value of the exhaust (paid £219), or of the item plus shipping (£360 in total)?

Just called parcelforce and it's £45.70 I've been charged. Less than expected .

Makes me wonder how they got that figure though, as there would have been no invoice attached to the parcel. Pick a number, any number?!

The supplying company will have provided the shipping company with a value for, and a description of, the goods prior to shipping. It's impossible to ship anything internationally without doing so.

In answer to your second question, you only pay import duty on the goods, not the services.

BTW, you haven't heard this from me, but if the goods had been described as secondhand motor spares, duty would not have been applicable

You'll probably find that there is a £13 handling charge for parcelforce (as I found out recently) - the rest should be for customs duty

Lol...nengun normally mark parcels as "gifts" or "Samples", but something's obviously gone wrong in this instance. I've had an apexi power fc and two induction kits from them without charges....so I suppose it's not too bad really.

92typeRA - Aye, I presume it's coming from Sighthill. They rang me half an hour ago and I paid the charges so it'll be out for delivery tomorrow.

£400 all in is still better than the £499 + vat it would have cost in this country!
