Question MOT Failure or Pass??

Any MOT Testers on here care to comment?

I don't think it would affect the beam pattern??

Should it pass or will I be looking at a failure??

Cheers

your 'heap' Might scrape through, Mr Ree.. but if you look in the mirror, that will answer the second part of your question...

I'd pass it as long as the beam patern is ok and its not full of water at time of test

Well, I will report back Friday if it passed or not ..........

I take my cars to a very strict MOT Test Centre as I like to have an honest report on the condition of my vehicles - and normally I give them a Service and a good check over, this is the only thing I can find which may give an issue.

Price of a new Headlamp anyone?

He's friendly enough ... just passed my MX5 last week ... and I cannot see anything else that could be wrong - they keep saying the 'DropLinks' go on these Scoobies (so, I'm expecting them to say that one year!)

Even bought 2 new Tyres today for the rear, the others were legal but better to show willing

Just wondered whether the Headlamps would be an advisory or a straight fail ..

as long as the glass isnt holed and it doesnt affect the beam pattern it will be fine otherwise you might be worth swapping one out for the MOT

Cheers all ....... just looked at the beam pattern on the wall - no scatter, nice clean pattern - should be OK

As an aside, the glass looks like it has 4 metal clips around the Headlamp - does this mean the glass alone can be replaced?

Had a chip in mine exactly the same as that since I bought it, never failed an MOT in the 8 yrs I've had it. (When it does, I might get round to fitting the new headlight I bought 8 yrs ago)
(It'll only fail if the beam pattern is impaired, either by the chip or indirectly later by the reflective coating getting knacked by water ingress.)

I read that I could 'Black out' the HeadLamps and they will not be tested and a Pass issued

Little known fact that vehicles do not need Headlamps - but, if they do have them, they must work.

Think you'll find that your MOT will be limited to driving in daylight hours

Entirely up to the garage whether to charge or not for retest. I did hear a year or two ago that the actual cost to the garage was 20p to the Dept of Transpt & the rest was theirs.

Not everywhere - each garage can choose what they charge - where I go they charge no re-test fee
