Default How much is my car worth?

Just been offered £16k trade-in for my immaculate '06 2.5Sti with 10k miles and just over a year old, against a new vehicle

Surely it must be worth more than this? This works out at a 36% loss in a year!

I knew they didn't hold their value well but this is silly...

Only worth what someone will pay for it fella. Big hit for depreciation & the VAT as you drive away

FYI, Glass gives a trade in value of £17100 for an immaculate condition car, and £15,400 for an average. While I'm sure your's is immicaulate, it gives you an idea of what it could be worth. You could raise him by about £500 but then you may not get a decent discount. So yes, you have lost money... lots of it...

After half an hour the dealer has just called me back with a £17k offer - so perhaps that's not too bad after all?

There was me thinking that wasn't too bad.

First years the worst, and with the new model coming out, the depreciation is a big pill to swallow.

Are you referring to the new '08 butt-ugly model? That should increase value of older models

So is £17k a good offer then?

Know how you feel mate I lost £6500 (33%) on my Celica T-Sport in the first year when I traded it in against the Subaru. You could try and sell private but the problem I found was people with that amount of money to spend want to trade in as well. Also dealers don't want touch it as its too new and they can't shift what they have on the forecourt. Does your car fall under the high tax band as that might put people off as well. Good luck

Well, the £8k loss works out at 32%, so maybe that's normal after a year. I'm hoping to squeeze a few more quid from the $tealer, so this may well improve - especially as they seem keen to meet their month-end targets.

You may well be right about private sales - I personally cannot imagine anyone parting with £20k cash.

And yes, i'm super group G for tax!

Unfortunately Scoobies lose money just like your neighbours Mundano. There are just so many around now.

You can buy a brand new Sti in the UK for £21K, I remember paying that for a brand new Turbo back in 1999 so from that comparison it's pretty good VFM but as there are no longer any import restrictions, there are so many to choose from. Check out some of the prices on the Autotrader website, some serious depreciation.

It still amazes me how the new Mini can still fetch £10K for a 5yr old car with a **** load of miles.

Nice to own and drive but economical suicide!

Sadly you are indeed correct. I have today spoken to numerous subaru $tealers and they all reckon £17k is a good offer my my car.

As for Minis, my missus thought the dealer was taking the mick with a 12.5k offer for her 1 year old 10kmiles which was 15k new! Bloody good offer I thought!

Thats what a dealer would pay for it, you should be able to get maybe a couple of grand more if you hold out and sell it privately.
