Default think my suspensions on the way out...

i was expecting it eventually as the car has 125k miles, even though the engine is only 55k old.
anyways what makes me think its going is the following...

setting off it squeeks like mad. any sort of blimp in the road and it squeeks like mad. a high pitch squeek too, like something is jiffling or rubbing. this is coming particularly from the rear end.

also when i go to brake some times i hear a tapping noise from the nearside rear wheel. i dunno if this is a sticking caliper or the suspension moving in ways it shouldnt.

either way im thinking its time for replacements. but what actually gets replaced when you change suspension, as before all i was gonna do was get some eibachs to lower it and stiffen up corners etc.

i assume you need the springs, shocks, but the bits at the top? help me im clueless, suspension being something ive never replaced. im not looking to go o.t.t. either, but something a little uprated to standard suspension would be nice.

ideas and suggestions... chances are scoobybits will fit everything so just wanna get some good kit.

andy

p.s. the cars a my99 uk turbo lol sorry forgot.

You don't want to worry about suspension and brakes. What you want is a nice dump valve, some stickers, an StiV5 rear wing and a flamer kit.

nearly therebubba. got me dump valve, saving for the v6 not 5 wing and the brakes are already done. flamer kits arent legal so im not really interested in one of those.

now can you help me with my dilemma or not? if not is there any reason for posting on this thread other than upping your post count or trying to wind me up.

This could just be the rear drop links mate? Get them changed to Whiteline for around £70 before you start spending any more money, or you could go cheaper and just get new standard ones...

never thought of the droplinks. whatever it is it really does squeek and its noticeable to the general public too. noticed the powerstation stage 2 doesnt include shocks etc.

basically what i need to know is what gets replaced when you change a full suspension set up. i understand what springs are, but whats the difference with shocks, dampers, coilover kits. all im after is a relatively cheap set up, that stiffens the car up on corners, and doesnt bloody squeek

then i was gonna go the whiteline route of roll bars and droplinks front and rear.

any suggestions, im in way over my head

I think most sports kits are uprated shocks/dampers and springs. Then you get the drop links. Coilovers from my knowledge are more expensive and allow you to control height and how hard they work (correct me if im wrong).

Anti roll bars connect both sides of the car on the same axle preventing body roll. Strut braces connect the struts (top of dampers you see in engine bay) to reduce flexing and improve rigidity. Anti lift kit keeps the front wheels down on acceleration and braking.

so to summarise,

Drop links,
Anti lift kit,
Dampers/Spring kit,
Anti roll bars
Strut Braces

Should sort it out!

i was actually. may take a little while to save up, but thats the sort of thing i was looking at. then the droplinks and arbs front and rear. i might get scoobybits to have a look first and try identify the problem.

KYB AGX adjustable shocks, they are excellent, a lot of fun changing the different settings, tranforms the car. Very reasonable prices if you import from the USA.

Check this video out mate, this is the Nylon bush which has no give on a rear drop link: (instead of the normal Polyurathane) http://www.mikeyb.co.uk/scooby/Creak.wmv

Chocolate - You might like to try some silicon grease on the rods of your rear shocks.

Costs virtually nothing if the problem lies elsewhere.

I had a similar problem, although maybe not as extreme as yours where that worked but by the time I had found out I had bought some of the KYB AGX all round and when I replaced them I wasn't convinced they were any better than my original shocks which, by that time, had stopped the squeaks. I have a MY99 WRX so probably different spec shocks to UK.

Thought KYB were a good alternative to the UK shocks?

Theres a new GB on for them. I really want a set but have spent out so much recently and I'll get a whooping from the boss if I get caught buying more

KYBs and a set of Eibachs was my first choice plus some whiteline gubbins.
