Barretts Motorsport - Kent/Canterbury
Anyone heard of the garage?
Going to look at a car that was last serviced here. Car is in Ashford so rang Subaru dealer in kent called Barretts and info did not tie up.
Is anyone aware of another place called Barretts that service Subaru's and if so could you give me some contact details.
Have tried Google and Yell, to no avail.

There is a Barretts main dealer in Canterbury (dont think they sell Subaru anymore, just service, etc) but also a business called Barretts Motorsport (this was originally established when the main dealer sponsored vehicles in events, etc).
I have taken my car to Barretts Motorsport (actually next door to Barretts service dept) and they are very knowledgeble and very trusting (did work on my car withour my paying - posted bill out later). If they worked on your car I reckon it has been in a very safe pair of hands.

I used to have my car serviced at Barratts Motorsport. Very knowledgeable guys, but the main mechanic has now left, so I think the owner (Phil) is operating via the main Barratts dealer servicing.
It's not my old car you're looking at is it..? GJ03*** Blue blobeye. I've only just recently px'd it for a Spec D.
Anyway, Barratts M'sport aren't cheap either, so it would go to say that it was well looked after if it went there....
Nige.

Thanks guys,
v8voodoo, no its not your car, I spoke to the bloke selling the car I am interested in and he said it has had its 50k service, but when I spoke to the subaru dealer they said last time they saw the car was for the 40k.
Just set some doubt in my mind, but think its now worth travelling to go and view.
Nice one.

Another number for you to try is 01227 864537.
If that's no good, ring the Subaru parts department in Canterbury and ask to speak to Phil Venn, I found him in there when I needed to get my service book stamped after they closed the motorsport bit...

Phil is the former main man of Barretts motorsport and is primarily a gearbox expert afaik. I've had work done on my car there and was very happy with it. BM used to look after and sponsor David Higgins's Scooby which walked the British Rally Championship a couple of years ago so you could say he knows about scoobies. It was based in a shed down the road at the side of Barrett's main showrooms in the centre of Canterbury - Barrett's surrendered the scooby franchise a couple of years ago.

Just to revive this old thread. I can confirm that Phil is knocking around in parts, and the 'then' servicing was doing imports as well as Type UK. Motorsport is effectively 'shut down'. As soon as they had a query with my car though, it was straight on the phone to Phil....and he run across from parts!
Now....my question is.
Barretts parts and servicing have dropped off the Subaru UK web site. So are they 'official' Subaru parts and servicing agents now? I am due a 'stamp' service LOL, so I really only want to take it to Subaru dealer. My in between servicing done by a specialist...
Any ideas?

Hi guys.....can anyone comment on if they are still 'Parts and Service' as mine is booked in now......
Edited: It might seem a silly question, but 'I' did not book it in....I am not in country at the mo....hence why I have not rung to find out...

Hi All,
Just wanted to confirm the Situation with Barretts Motorsport & the Subaru Franchise.
After many years of running a successful Rally Team & working on both standard and heavily modified road going Import & UK Subaru's, Our Technician Karl left us & as we were no longer involved in Rallying, the decision was taken to close the Motorsport dept in late 2006 & amalgamate the dept into our Subaru Franchise workshop on the same site in Malthouse Road in Canterbury, whose Technicians incidentally were also part of the Rallying side of the Motorsport dept.
Barretts, recently & reluctently have decided for now to terminate our official status as Subaru Dealers.
We do however still have our Subaru Technicians & Equipment and continue to stock Genuine Subaru Parts & are continuing as before to offer our services & knowledge to both the UK & JDM (Import) cars, with the exception of Warranty Work.
Service books continue to be stamped with a Barretts stamp & this has no effect on the "Factory Warranty" as we continue to follow the factory schedule & are using Genuine Parts.
As for myself (Phil) I am still here and involved heavily in the Scooby's.
Both the above Phone Numbers quoted are still valid and will still get answered, although you may get transferred to different phone, dependent on where I happen to be at the time.

It may well be that the car you were looking at was serviced by the Motorsport Dept & not the main workshop, which would explain the lack of service history.
If you would like to e-mail me at motorsport@barrettskent.co.uk with the reg or current owners name I could confirm weather we have seen it and if so what work we carried out.
Regards
Phil

Hi Phil,
This is a bit of an old thread that I dug up....
So to confirm, as well as dropping the dealer status, the 'official' parts and service tag has been dropped too.....but you are still business as normal, albeit now presumably as a 'specialist', using genuine parts etc.
Does that sound right?
Mark
