Question

About 8 Months ago I traded in my beloved 99my Impreza Turbo because of money issues.Anyway I have now found out that it has been written off by the new owner.I have seen it and it is hardly recognisable as the gorgeous car I once owned, both airbags have deployed and the front end is heavily damaged, causing the front panel to cut through the cambelt thus virtually destroying the engine as well. The proper estimate comes to nearly £12,000 in parts and labour
So I was wondering wether it was worth buying back as a write off and repairing it myself ?

Bear in mind that a MY99 can be had for £9-12k fully working, I probably wouldn't bother repairing that car, the working parts will probably be worth more to the breaker than you'll want to buy the car for in order to make it worthwhile. Remember it won't be worth as much as an original car if it's on the register, when you come to sell...

What will it actually cost to repair? £6-7K?
What do the insurance co want for the car? £2k?
If so your already at £8-9k and there was a genunine original MY99 in the 'private' section last week for £8995! Not much of a saving really...

Of course if you know it will cost much less and you build the car to your own spec, it might be worth doing.

It's probably easier just to keep my current motor for about another twelve months and then buy a new WRX or STI
