Default De-Cat the way for power?

I have been checking out what are the best ways for me too free up some more power in my 1995 wrx it is 100% standard at the moment.. i have been looking around all of the shops to see what is out there but i think i could do with some first hand advise.....

Shops are quoting 30 bhp increase for a de-cat this seems very high. are they really worth the hassel of swapping it for the MOT??? if it frees up 30bhp i think yes!! but if its only 5-10 bhp not to sure??

Whats your views and advise for me to get reasonable priced noticeable gains in power?

Not realy an expert but i think a full decat wouldnt give you that much power increase but it will sound a hell of a lot nicer If i needed more power then i'd probably get the full decat then go for a remap . i thin a remap would be around £500? then you would probably get asignificant increase in bhp

pound for pound the decat D/P is probably the best mod you can do, i noticed a big diffrence in torque when i did mine

pre september 95 imports are tested as a non cat test so you can remove the cat.
30bhp is pretty optimistic imo and as turbomatt said get a remap to take full advantage of it for a 95 wrx you either need to replace the ecu or get an esl/scoobyecu style chip.

I had a UK94 and that still needed a CAT test I believe?

Anyway, all I'd done to mine was full decat + filter +Dawes device and it RR'd at 289 or thereabouts (208 as std supposedly). Dunno if it was running more power as std before I'd done the mods or not but I'd say it was a healthy increase over the std power anyway regardless of numbers. Felt *so* much quicker and with the Dawes rev'd right up into the redline.
