Default MORE BHP GAIN

If you had a standard Impreza turbo 2000 where would you people start to modify it, some say to have a re map after you've fitted a de cat and new exhaust etc and others say re map first. I have posted a few threads on here in the past re my dad's scooby, but I'm thinking of getting one again now which is a x reg wagon uk car and want your advise on which way to go about it to get the best out of my car without hammering the pockets big time. Where do I start? Remember the car is totally standard. Cheers guys.

Depends on what power level you are looking for.

Obviously the best bang for your buck is exhaust/tune.

No point in mapping then adding bits, anyone who lets you that is very wrong. You can get away with a filter and decat without a remap but a remap would be the way to go for more power after fitting your bits.

Full decat from turbo would be the way to go but then the mot can be a worry due to having no cats so maybe just a full system and leave the down pipe alone. Unless you know of a friendy garage

A good panel filter not an induction kit, all they do is pull in hot air. forget the dump valve that adds no performance the car.

I have an MY00 Classic and started down the long and windy road of modding by fitting:

Power Engineering T75 backbox (twin outlet)
Scoobysport decat downpipe
Prodrive PPP resonated decat centre pipe (this keeps the decat noise down)
Lightened 4.5kg flywheel
Lightened 500g crank pulley
VF24 turbo
3 port boost solonoid
Walbro 285 fuel pump
Samco water hoses
Subaru 97/98 recirc Dump valve
Autobahn 88 Front mounted intercooler
APS induction kit inside the wing

and got the whole shbang remaped by Bob Rawle and the end result was 359bhp and 343lbft of torque

But ontop of that lot you need to make the car stop aswell as it goes and handle aswell so I also fitted

KW v1 coilovers
STi 7 Brembo brakes
Goodridge braided brake lines all round
MRT master cylinder brake bracket
Whiteline uprated ARB's and drop links front and back
front strutbrace
22B adjustable spoiler
P1 front splitter
STi 7 Wheels

and just for tartyness

22b Bonnet vents and colour coded skirts.

Possibly not everyones chosen route but in my case my car now performs like a scalextric slot car and has so far never been embarrased on the road, and bearing in mind I live in Germany that is not a bad record.

HTH

Steve

IMO i'd sort handling 1st, with anti roll bars (ARB's), solid Drop links (DL's) and anti lift kit (ALK), perhaps a slight lowering of springs too, and a geometry set-up.

It depends what you want out of the car and how far you want to take it. Its a slippery expensive slope
