how can i tell a uk spec classic from import
and i dont mean the " there slow" replies please ha ha
serious as i can insure a classic uk spec for half a jap spec and then modding it to make it quicker will STILL be less than a jap spec
and as im not gonna have a standard jap power car i think a uk spec is the way
whats the main differences,,,, AND DO THEY COME WITH AIRCON ( yes im a tart, but im also ginger and a photograph of the sun can make me burn )

Externally, headlamp washers and integral fog lights in the rear clusters give away a UK.
Internally, early cars have the dash laid out as fuel gauge, speedo, tacho, temp gauge left to right, whereas UKs have the order right to left.
Centre console will have room for a double-din stereo in a JDM, UK won't.
Having only ever had a JDM WRX, I can't think of anything else at the moment!

Imports have the indicators/ headlight switch on the right side of the steering wheel... wipers to the left...
Takes alittle getting used to... you end up putting the wipers on to turn at junctions... lol

MY 93-94 240ps
MY 95-96 260ps
MY 97-00 280ps
other bits u may spot, occasional ... roof vent, 2 doors, possible fujitsubo (sp) exhaust, lots of people put sti badges/gizmos on their motor, but not many go to the trouble to put the small badge just below the side repeaters.
Car colour..not many white from UK, ( not sure if they did a uk white or not in classic)
look for combinations of features really, unless people really know a model inside out, you'll usually spot a dressed up uk from a "pukka", then if ya cant look at the model code / serial number on the vin plate, ( engine bay, nearside suspension mount)
also this is an old favourite site Eta Tauri Site Impreza Reference - WRX Frenzy

What about the folding mirrors, ugly looking fog light hanging out of the rear & a habit of blowing up
my last car had aircon lucky if it was used three times in five years

As an owner of a MY99 WRX things like rear fog lights hanging off back and other "add ons" are not representative as it depends on whether the car was properly modded to UK requirements.
The key items on a Classic Jap Import which make them easy to identify are:
Rear Wash Wipe
Electric Aerial on RNS wing (therefore no pull out wire on A pillar!)
No headlight washers
Folding door mirrors
Other items are:
Power
Aluminium bonnet and boot
Alloy suspension components
Original suspension seemd superior to a UK (I think the springs and shocks were better matched as well as the previous item)
Air con (not sure if it is a standard fitment though)
