Default what oil should be used?

my car is a 98 uk turbo model with 78k on the clock. im looking to change the oil to see if it helps to quieten the engine as on start up from cold it does suffer with the common problem of piston slap, it does quieten down when warm though. at the min it has semi synthetic 10-40 oil in it, which was changed at the weekend.......just before i bought it!

what would you recommend for it?

thanks, gaz!

Done to the death but try Motul 300v, Silkolene Pro R/S, Castrol RS or Millers.

All fully synthetic

does having semi synthetic as apposed to fully synthetic make any difference? (apart from the price i guess)

sorry if this has no doubt been covered many times, but i just wanted to see what people would recommend for my car with the mileage etc?

thanks, gaz!

Do a search on OIL - it's been done to death.

The clever put in what Subaru recommend ..... 10W-40 Semi-Sythetic at £14:99 for 5 litres - pay more if you wish to waste money.
