Not a bad idea IMHO, if a little on the ugly side.

I'm sure it does it's purpose anyway...

The small part is to get cold air down onto the turbo and the reversed part is to get the hot air from engine out of the engine bay.

Wonder if these have actually been airflow and pressure tested? I would agree that you still need the hole for the turbo to feed it air when on the move and to let it lose heat when at standstill. But there's no real reason why you want to upset the normal flow of air through the front bumper and out the bottom of the car along the sides of the gearbox.

If this reversed scoop bit does its job, it's going to be disturbing the usual flow and most likely warrming up the engine bay by creating turbulence around the gearbox so that there is no clear path for engine bay air to follow. And I would question whether it CAN even do its job - the rear of the bonnet just before the windscreen is a high pressure area on just about every car ever designed. That's why fresh air intakes for the cabin are always placed there, so that you get fresh air even without the blower on. So by putting an 'exhaust' vent there you're not going to extract air, you're going to just stall it. If it works in even the smallest way, you'll just get engine bay fumes coming into the car.

IMHO of course.

Personally, if you went for a Sport bonner instead of a reverse scoop, i think you'd find it a lot hotter in the engine bay.

Yes I'd agree with that. You do need the outlet for hot air. I just question whether you need anything fancy looking like that. Keeping the original forward facing scoop will work better than any other option IMHO.

Only at low speeds. We know that the top mount is completely useless at very high speeds, as the air is actually forced OVER it.

I'll be making up my own reverse scoop, as soon as i have my handson an OE one.

You know this air over the top at high speed thing that is always mentioned....

Does this apply to blobs?

I thought the reason the scoop was so big and sticks forward was to fix this problem of the air going over the top. Anyone shed any light on this?

no the scoops just look better, i dont think subaru would have created a world rally car and put it out to the masses knowing that air was flowing over the scoop. take a look at some of the new legacys foresters etc and their scoops dont sit forward, someones having you on buddy

We're only talking about +100mph. Something that although is possible, isn't something Subaru expect you to do a lot of.

Same as bouncing the revs off the limiter. Keep doing it and you can expect something to give, even though Subaru have built it that way.

I saw an add for HT Auto's on ebay the other day. They are doing some nice reverse scoops for the classic.

Sadly, nothing for the newage yet

So is this less of a problem during high speed runs with the newage scoops then?

I have personally tested this out. As I say, only up to 130mph, my testing facilities did not go any faster, but I HAVE tested it out. I have tested both ambient pressure differentials from the scoop mouth to the underside of the TMIC, and charge temperatures using a standard TMIC.

Airflow through the classic scoop does NOT reverse or stall at high speed, although pressure does start to build inside the engine bay. Charge temperatures DROP the faster you go. In simple terms, the scoop works better the faster you go, including beyond 100mph. Yes it can be improved, as evidenced by the gradually increasing size of STi scoops over the years. But as standard, it WORKS.

Try Milsport they have a couple of designs, one is exactly what it says, a reverse scoop, and the other a heat extractor vent.
It say's available for new age as well.
