Default write off?

My car got broken in to last night and has been totally ripped apart. I have been in touch with the insurance company and the car has now been taken away to be evaluated. They say it could be a write off as there is so much damage to the steering column and wires.

The guy told me the car is worth £3000. Does anybody know if it is a write of and I decided to buy it back what kind of cost it will be?

wrx 1995

cheers

They probably will write it off if its as bad as you say.
Some insurance firms will let you buy it back around half the value or less. Some forms wont. But their payout prices against the cost of a buy back are sometimes negotiable.

if they let you have it at salvage it will be well under half price usually 10 -15% ov its value, get it bought back if you get the chance

the buy back cost should be 20% of what the car is valued at by the insurance company, so on your car using your figures it should be £600. £3000 seems a bit low to me, even if it is an import, get yourself some adverts of similar cars to yours that are priced more realistically and refuse their first offer. they will usually up the offer fairly quickly upon receiving evidence your car is worth more.
EDIT: also, the car will most likely be written off if the value of the repair is greater than 80% of the cars value. so again using your figures, you are looking at a sum of £2400 or less for them to repair it

i'm assuming you are not with a firm like a-plan or keith michaels as if they have offered you the £3000 they more than the more mainstream insurers will know what they are talking about and so probably wont up the offer.

on the bright side though, it hasnt been written off yet so fingers crossed you get it repaired and back to its original spec
