Default How do I get this off???

Ok, some spotty kid has tried to have the WRX badge off the back of my STi. They anly succeeded in getting the W, but it's left me with the RX to get off myself and horrible blobby mess that I have to clean off where the W was, before I can put a new badge on there.

Whats the best stuff for cleaning it up, guys???

Spray the glue remains with wd40, leave it for 5 mins, wipe off excess wd40, heat it with a hairdryer or similar till it becomes warm use your thumb to roll off the sticky bits at the same time if you want.
As for getting the letters off a stanley blade or credit card should do it. Just be careful not to catch the paintwork, put a cloth or something against paintwok when removing the letters!!

Hope this helps

Do not use thinners at all

It will damage the paintwork, will take a fine layer of the laquer off and make that area look dull compared to the rest.

WD40 is your best best

just clean it and the paint work.... then gently roll the sticky off with your thumb. if you order a new badge you can just replace the W. if not bit of kitchen roll folded and a wooden spatula to gently prise the badge off then clean sticky and paint. and roll the glue bits off. above may work but this will work without anything being sprayed on. i have done this as advised by subaru. works just fine. just make sure its clean and you are not rolling any grit.

Not sure about Stanley Blade, no matter how carefull,it's gonna slip

Also agree no thinners, however petrol on a cloth will move most stuff

I used a stanley blade to start to seperate the letters from the glue, once i could get my nail behind it i slowly pulled the letters off. I then used the wd40 and hairdryer to remove the glue that was left, clean job with no damage to the paintwork.

Use some dental floss in a kind of 'sawing' motion behind the badges to get them off, then the other methods to remove the sticky residue left behind

I was thinking of debadgeing my MY00 modle in green

Is it likely if i debadge it that the paint will have faded/discoloured after all this time ??and will it show up where the badges have been

Paint is excellent and been polished /waxed regular

After you have removed the letters, a good polish will banish any sign of the badges
