P1 or Spec C MY 03 or 04??
P1 is on my list but during my search I hace noticed a couple of Spec C s for dealer prices of a P1.
Is the Spec C as good as a P1!!
That is my question.
Car to be used for weekend use mainly with the motorway use being relatively high.
What is 6th gear rpm at say 90mph in Spec C.
Thoughts please.

Ive owned a Spec C for 3 years now nothing else can be said about it, better in town, more low down torque, 5th gear 25mph, better brakes, better clutch, better car, BUT it may not be what YOU want.
Drive both and decide, if you want a 2 door then the p1, its probably more livable than the spec c, which can take more concentration to drive

P1's are fantastic cars but the spec C is more capable. I've never found mine hard to live with and use it for all my distance travelling (I go away every two-three weeks for the weekend with my son, to trackdays and football matches, so do plenty of motorway miles in it). Don't recall exact RPM at 90 ... somewhere around 3000 revs ... but I'm happy to cruise at 80-90 in sixth. Has to be said its a bit noisy (between the Miltek exhaust, tyre noise and wind noise) but no worse than other cars I've driven ...

90mph equates to about 4k rpm, 70mph is 3k
And you can tell steve is a southerner no dodgy roads around there
On the motorway they are good, take her on an a/b road on the standard suspension and you know about it, it does absorb the road well but the car can be a bit "jumpy", so no, its not ideal in all conditions, the P1 can be a more livable car than a spec c.
In town/traffic, the Spec C just kicks butt with the engine pulling from 1500rpm, much better than older models and uk STi's but I'll still stand by you need to try both to see what suits you, Spec C's dont suit everyone, they are more of a "weekend" car tbh, but great fun

It all boils down to personal preference m8! In my eyes the P1 is the best Impreza that was ever made, but that is my opinion. There are those that don't like the classic shape. Drive both...and go with what you want!

As good as the P1 is supposed to be. I couldn't justify spending that much on such an old car.
I'd vote for the Spec C.
I actually think the Blob is better lOOking too. Having had a classic too. That must be age catching up?!?! But i still love the classic shape.

It is not an easy one.
Just waiting for the tax rebate before driving anything.
I like the idea of the torque on the Spec C, my Classic has PPP and good torque,so would miss it if the P1 torque starts higher up the rev range.
But write ups suggest that the P1 pulls from quite low ok.
Also the Classic suspension set up is fantastic esp. with the Powerstation mods, so spec C may be a bit too harsh, however my 205 was superb to drive even though quite firm so could put up with it in Spec C?
Thanks for the input will let know of the outcome.
Gearing seams ok from whats been said.

I'd go for a spec c. Mainly because I've had a P1. So would like something different. It's been about 7 years since the P1 came out so of course a spec c is better. But for looks I don't think you can beat 2 door scoobs. They just look
right.
right.

I've owned both - two years of P1 ownership and 3 years of Spec C ownership.
The Spec C is a better car in terms of handling, potential upgrades etc etc (with a much stronger engine).
Yes i would agree that the P1 is a great looking car but I wouldn't go back to a P1 now i have owned a Spec C.

I have seen your car for sale it looks superb.
I am hoping my money comes through before you sell it,but right at the top of my price band.
Some good cars for sale at the moment Spec C s and P 1 s.
Good to here from someone whom has had both.
The Tax man take it quick enough but are a bit slow giving it back!!
Good luck with your sale.

I went from an MY00 PPP (decat) car to a Spec C, the PPP doesnt even come close in terms of matching the Spec C for torque, its a totally different beast, but its your choice, id go drive both then decide.
