This afternoon, my dad checked his oil and tyre pressures ready for Sunseeker rally.
He finishes up the bottle of oil that he had, which was not quite enough, so he asked me to go out and get some, which I duly did. This was 5pm. Gets back home at 5:50, has dinner. Then after dinner, my dad pours some more oil into the engine, but as he unscrews the cap it falls down on to the undertray, inbetween the battery and the side of the engine. This has happens as I was upstairs on my PC happy playing music and surfing the net. Then my mum comes up and says that 'dad has droped the oil'. Theres me thinking the oil can has falled onto the undertray. Then I find its just the oil cap fallen onto the undertray.
So muggings here has to retreive it
I firslty try a grabber thing, that kinda worked, but it was too big. I then try and see if I can reatch it from the underneath, er thats a no go. Then I think about it for a second and come the conclusion that The battery has to come out. So out comes my grandads tool roll - best set of tools I have ever come accorss, better than my socket set - and I get out a 10mm ring spanner to undo the positive and negggative terminals, then put them out of the way, then I undo the battery clamp. I then oik the battery out - thats bloody heavy and the plastic tray.
This allows me to slot my hand down between the engine to get the oil cap.
puts all back together.
Re set the clock, i'll do the radio in the morning en-route.
Hopefully disconecting the battery for 5 mins has not effecting the ecu or the alarm?
Parents hay.

BTDTGTTS.
Took the little cover off the boost solenoid so I could clean it, probably a half hour job. When I went to put it back on I turned it upside down to check it was clean. I didn't realise that the little plastic clips weren't captive and just saw one out of the corner of my eye and heard it fall out and rattle down into the engine compartment
Looked on the floor, but of course it wasn't there. Looked down from the top but couldn't see anything. So dropped the undertray, but still couldn't see anything. There's a heatshield round the boottom of the exhaust where it could hve got caught. Didn't fancy the smell of melting plastic or potential fire so after much effort removed that, still no sign.
So back up top with a more powerful torch, and there she was (note the gender
). The clip had fallen onto the wheel arch and rolled forwards under the air intake and come to rest at the front of the car. Not difficult to just reach in and extract it
Re-attach heatshield and undertray and after about an hour I was back to where I started when I could have been finished in about 30 seconds.

I fitted a new battery to mine on Thursday afternoon and wondered the same kinda things.
But then why should it do any harm? We are getting paranoid my Subaru friend.
I no longer have a clock to reset but after tuning in the radio all is well.
The Subaru is not some mythical beast! This is where you take a leaf outta PSLewis' book and just treat it like you would any other car.
I don't think you would think twice about changing the battery in any other car? LOL
