Who carried out the diognosis? Classic or new age? Bit basic but if you haven't tried it already a ecu reset will tell you if it's an ongoing problem.

If it is the in-built knock sensor being activated & causing the light to come on & stay on, then it's also adjusting your engine & ecu settings to try & prevent detonation, or knocking. Chances are the engine may well still be detonating though, & this is a bad thing.
What fuel are you using? You should be using, at very least, super unleaded such as Shell V Power, of BP Ultimate etc in an imported car. If it's a UK car this will be less of an issue.
It also depends on what type of Scooby you have ie STi or wrx etc, but the change of exhaust etc most likely will make a remap of the ecu needed....

As it's a UK Turbo there shouldnt be any problem with the fuel. Sounds like it might well be "just" a dodgy sensor? If I were you though I'd get it checked out properly - the "check" light is activated by a number of different sensors...

Mine had a similer issue - been fine for 2 years then suddenly it came on for a second or 2 then went off - I did the self test thing and it pointed to the knock sensor - got it into prosport for a new sensor and its been fine ever since (touches table leg) - just wear and tear - its not always doom and gloom
