Default Scooby 2.5 WRX PPP kit

Just bought a new 2.5 WRX 07 model. Thinking of fitting a PPP pack as my insurance only goes up by £ 25.

Does anyone have any performance figures for the mods.

sounds a bit too cheap to be honest. I'd double check with the insurer that they know what you're talking about - i.e. engine and exhaust upgrade, as in my experience most insurance staff (especially call centre) don't know their **** from their elbow - and it'll be you that gets screwed later if something goes wrong.

My insurance quote was double for a PPP on a 2000 classic

The new ppp is listed on most insurance databases now. So it is much cheaper to insure ppp'd newage cars, because it is now classed as a dealer fitted extra.
As an example, the sti comes listed on the Admiral website as sti type uk and sti type uk 300hp- that's the ppp'd car.
As such I am not surprised that it's only £25 extra for ppp.

I was with Elephant before my PPP. I rang them twice and spoke to different people. First one said no charge, second one said no to insuring it. So I cancelled and went with A-Plan, only £10 more expensive than my standard WRX with Elephant. PPP is definitely covered.

Go for it with PPP, the car is so much more driveable, the torque is amazing. Don't just look at the 0-60 figures it's the in-gear accelartion that helps

Insurance is one thing, but according to one SNetter down this way, the PPP for the 07 version uses a different ECU to the 06 version, and as yet hasn't been announced/developed. They tried to order it but were told it not yet available.

I may be wrong, Mike Wood would be the best to ask, but you may have a wait for the PPP - probably sorting the RB320 out first.

Mike,

I think I know what the answer to this will be, but no harm in asking. In your opinion is the ppp on an 06 STi as noticable as it was on sat an 05 car. I am about to order it, as I want to retain the warrany etc, but somebody once said that as the 2.5 is already fairly torquey, the difference wasn't that noticable. They were prob talking rubbish, but as you are the top man, I thought i'd ask!. I'm basically hopeing for a bit more torque and a stronger top end. Also, does the resonated pipe get changed, as at the mo I have replaced it with a non resonated pipe, which has bought back the burble. Many thanks.

Steve.

With some companies fittiing PPP can nearly double the insurance, e.g Direct line can be as cheap as £350 to insure a WRX, but 650 with PPP.

Other companies such as RAC quote 780 for a standdard WRX and 820 for WRX with PPP.

The 06/07STi has much better characteristics at low rpm as you'd exepct with a larger engine and the same turbo. The performance package has the same incremental increase as previous models but as it's very smooth some feel that it isn't that much of a difference. Until they look at the instruments...........

hey Andy,

might be useful if you can quote what you currently pay for a standard WRX then PPP as it then gives a better comparison of cost difference, as i stated some insurance companies quotes are good rates for the standard car (but discourage PPP due to the high uplift with the extras), others insurance companies are suited to those considering the PPP upgrade (but for a basic WRX too expensive).

I'm 31 and | pay 400 with direct-line, I have the advanced driving test which knocks it down quite a bit. with PPP my insurance would rise to £650

To get the cheap quotes you need a clean license (0 points within the last 5 years), >7 years no claims, and advanced driving test. In otherwords a saint.

cheers,

mike paul

The premium is £ 657 and then the extra £ 25 for the PPP kit.

Sounds sensible.
In fact I have a quote here from admiral insurance for a 2005sti, they have Two flavours listed on the database.
STI type UK 265hp and
STI type UK 301hp.

The 301hp (PPP'd car) quote is £6 more than the std 265hp.

Bargain.
