Default saxo boy stereotype

On my way to work this evening, 21:40, roads quiet, dry. Me in the scoob for a change, as I usually use the wifes fiesta on nights , when out of a side road comes saxo boy. Nice looking car actually, not overly done, lowered, alloys, nice paint, 2 young lads in, baseball caps (on forwards )
Pulled out behind me as I pass, and I think "here we go, right up my **** all the way to work now!" But no! Dropped well back, to the point that I nearly lost them. Until that is I got to the lights at the top of the hill. He pulls up beside me, car body language indicating that he's also going straight on (he's in the right turn lane) lights change, and he's off, straight on, as predicted, and out of sight like a little red bullet, bless him

The next set of lights, guess who's there? (I hate it when I burn someone off only to have to wait at the next junction/lights 1 mile down the road )

I was denied my revenge as he went a diferent way to me after that Gotta love those saxo drivers though, at least they have a go

I drive a saxo, hardly a boy racer as its a standard 1.1 Desire, but you do get alot of stereotypical looks!

I've had two in the past, a 'Forte' and a 'VTR'. The VTR was quite a good car! I got rid of it to get the WRX as I didn't want the same car as some of my A Level students . I still think they can look nice if not covered in Halfords parts. Lowered with new wheels, job done.

My first hot hatch was a VTS. I bought a brand new one when i went 21 (almost 8 years ago), at that time it came with one years free insurance.

I loved every minute of it. Kept it for 3 years and then decided to go for more power. Its a shame it didn't come with a bigger engine to rival the Clio.

Fortunately, there was no stigma attached back then, as the chavs could not afford to buy them.

When I had my saxo vts ages ago I had a little play with a porsche 911. I knew there was no chance and it was alot of fun to be honest. Both went for it and the porker just shot off (it sounded very nice btw).

Next set of light I pulled up next to the guy and he put his window down and said "Nippy little car you have there"

Like bigstu when I had mine the stigma attached

The funny thing i find is the Pug 106 Gti is almost identical yet you drive one and your a petrolhead, but if you drive a Saxo your a chav!!!

Its just the Saxo is more common I guess..

I really wonder if the people who slag them off have ever had the fun of owning a French hot hatch of any kind though.

And before anyone starts!.. I do consider them a hot hatch in the traditional sense - R5GT, AX GTi, 205 GTi, Mk1 Golf GTi. A Clio Cup and Fiesta ST are hot hatches - the Focus RS and Civic Type-R are mid-sized performance cars!

I must admit that did grate a little bit!! The GTI is taken on its merits and is regarded as one of the finest hot-hatches made. The VTS is as good as identical and hardly gets a look in because it's not a pug and it doesn't wear a GTI badge.

The VTS is the more fun to drive anyhow just because its a little more unforgiving.. (). Its surprising how much difference little things like overhangs and slight weight distribution differences between the two cars makes. I thought I was imagining it until Evo came out and said the same thing

Sounds like you were unlucky. I didn't have a spot of bother with mine. I just went through front tyres like they were going out of fashion.

I hate the bloody things. Take the Impreza out and the saxo boys are like fly's around sh*t.
Was over taken in a 40 zone this morning by a dick in a 1.6 Focus, bet he couldn't wait to get to work and tell his pals he had just 'done' an Impreza.
Nik.

It boils down to individual taste. I've owned my impreza for over 2 years and wouldn't change it for the world. However, i loved my Saxo just as much.

Life is too short to worry about what another non scooby driver will tell his friends....just remember, little things please little minds!

Haha I used to have a VTR, and I absolutly chucked some mileage at that, had it for around 3 months and did 17k miles, (i used to live 26 miles away from school, and another 26 miles away from the mrs), and I used to get free petrol aswell so I loved it..

I redlined it every gear and paid for it at the end, slapped a VTS Gearbox and new clutch in it, then sold it the day after to a garage while it was still in the repair centre! So never did get to find out if the box made a difference, but I loved that car, could throw it into corners with foot flat to the floor and it was just awesome! What a car

They are funny; unfortunately the Saxo and Corsa are the Chav chariots of choice around my way. One of the funniest oments I've had behind the wheel of a scooby was when I was at a set of lights in the left lane going straight ahead and this Saxo pulled up next to me in the turn right lane. It was stuffed full of boys in their caps, reving the nuts of this poor little car! At that point I noticed a police car 2 cars behind me. It was marked, so I can only assume that he must have been in Saxo boys blind spot or they were so intent on getting away from the lights they didn't notice.

Hint of amber, Saxo screeches off the line.....not much speed, but most impressive wheelspin!! I wait till green and crawl off in second gear.

There was this blue flashing light!

10 minutes later -on the return leg of my journey to the local shops- they were still there at the side of the road gesticulating at the policemen who looked VERY unimpressed!

Can better that one mate. I had.....wait for it....a VW Jetta that seemed to be burning more oil than petrol, try the same thing on me in the P1. Could hardly drive for the tears of laughter streaming down the face, but eventually had to show him and his mates the way forward.

I had a Suzuki Swift (ironic name) try it on once. Laughed so hard, I nearly stalled! I let him burn away from the lights out of morbid curiosity. I hung back to see that although I hadn't taken the bait, a mighty Fiesta Flight 1.4 had.... and proceded to pass said swift like he was standing still!

One way to look at it is, it is a sign of respect for them to 'want' to race you and take a scalp. The worse is when you want to overtake at a legimate spot and the car moves to try to block you a bit, whats that all about?

Gotta love the saxo boys round here, there are two really destinctive ones.

One has six, yes I did say SIX exhaust pipes and a moohasive body kit on it, the other has the same moohasive body kit but I think he must have run out of money as the said body kit is still, unprimed and unpainted, the car also has the standard wheels and exhaust on it.

Ah! brings back memories of being young

If that is the one "a few bits done to it" is a understatement along the lines of "the suns a bit warm"
