Thumbs up

Well f.ck me, Ive finaly experienced a company that gives a damm!! I sent my warped Tarox discs back to Amber a couple of months back. Amber sent the discs to Tarox who declared that there was no manufacturing fault but that theyd send the discs to Italy to be refaced free of charge. I was starting to wonder if Tarox had forgotton about me when there was a knock on the door this morning. Waaaayyhaay thinks I, Ive got my refaced discs back. But no, Amber had got sick of waiting for Tarox to send them the refaced discs and so, as the included letter says:

"Please find enclosed 1 x BRAND NEW set of discs for your Cosworth. As we have been waiting for so long for Tarox Italy to return the discs you sent to us from their factory where they were being re-faced we have taken it upon ourselves to supply you with a new set. There clearly is no charge for this we aplogise for any inconvenience during this time. We hope the new discs are to your satisfaction"

Well done Amber, youve gained my further custom and my reccomendations to all I meet (although the same cant be said for Tarox!!!).

cheers, bren

Hhhmmm - what pads were you running and how old were the disks?

My TarOx disks for the Impreza also warped after about 3-4k km's. I was on DS2000 pads.

Replacement disks get fitted next Monday....wonder how long these'll last. Anyone else had similar problems with TarOx?

Not you Mike - anyone who finds it usual to have smoke coming from the calipers....even after popping to the shops...deserves all they get

The pads were Tarox to match the discs, although ive since found out that Tarox dont make their own pads any more and that they use renamed Mintex!!!! They just charge £20 more for them

I was told by a company called Woodford Garage (a cossy specialist) that standard discs would be fine if i used DS2000s!!! They told me the Tarox (well Mintex ) pads generate too much heat and that the Ferodos would not warp the discs!!! Just goes to show you cant trust anyone.

Im not sure if ill even bother fitting them to the car. I might just sell them on and buy a set of larger brakes.

robski

ive no idea if theyve got a website but i think they do parts for all sorts of cars, not just Fords.

Oh yes they do have a website, i just checked the letter for a tel. no. for you and noticed their url, its

Ive just checked out their site and it looks like they only do Ford bits, although when i ordered my discs i asked them if they could get bits for a civic and they said yes no probs. I suppose they can order anything for anything, even if they specialise in Fords.

Cool

Cheers guys for the positive comments, we've also thanked bren on the RS site also. It's nice to know when you do something right. Lets try and answer some of the other points also. We are predominantly Ford RS suppliers as this was our core business from day one. We do not want to sever ties with a customer base that has supported us for many years. However we recognis the trend for Jap cars and are gradually moving across to cater for these vehicles. Obviously we needed to practise what we were about to preach so we felt a 500+BHP Skyline would do the trick. After the relevant fettling to get the car how we want and trying out various bits and suppliers we are happy thet in certain areas we can provide reasonable knowledge and the parts to support the requests we are likely to get. We have stuck to the core products initially such as wheels, tyres, exhausts, suspension, brakes filters dump valves etc. We are always willing to search for parts though. If you want something please give us a try and we will do our best.
Our website is clearly only Ford at present but it is under re-construction at present although the person doing it is a former member of the muppet cast. Bear with us it will be much better when finished and will cater for a lot more than what you currently see.
As for the Tarox situation, this is where things start to get interesting!!. We do not know what went wrong with Brens discs but ultimately he got a new set a we hope he is happy. We are concerned about certain MISLEADING advice being given to people about this product. Tarox is an Italian company, the discs are manufactured in Italy and they only supply to the UK market the G88 (40Groove) or SJ (combi) tyoe disc. The pads are also manufactured in Italy and are available in Fast Road or Rally format. Neither of the products are manufactured or associated in anyway with MINTEX. We have discussed this point with the MD at Tarox and this has been confirmed. It is possible the supplier of the misleading info is confusing Tarox Italy with Red Dot who used to trade under the Tarox banner some years ago and may still be using that association to collect business today. We are not happy that their range is upto the quality of the Tarox brand and cannot confirm where their pads are manufactured. Suffice to say if a so called Tarox disc has / had 6,8,12,20 or any other number of grooves it will not have been the genuine product and that may be why people have had trouble mixing them with certain brake pad types. Finally Tarox do happily recommend Mintex M1144 and Ferodo DS2000 pads if a customer chooses not to use their own range. We hope this clarifies a point.
Any questionS??????????

please note the above is only our own opinion

regards

jason / james

Hello Jase

Nice to see you on Scoobynet mate. Welcome

I read the top of the thread and I was just going to put in another good word for you and Amber P. when I saw you had replied.

You sold that MR2 outside your shop yet?

Paul's dump valve sounds nice. I will be getting one too soon. I might phone you for a price. Paul said I might not need the fitting kit, which Carnoisseur are doing for £45 and Bailey for £35. Any ideas?

Bye for now
Rikki

You got advice from Carnoisseur?!?!?
Whoaa! isn't that a contradiction in terms?

Just joking

Bring the car down some time so we can have a look at it then we can see what we can do. Pauls GT4 was a piece of cake and we did not need to get a fitting kit for it. He's popping down on Saturday so we can graft on a Cosworth induction for him - maybe you can come along also.

p.s. the MR2 Turbo is still up for grabs £4500.00 if anyone knows somebody interested

cheers

On my MY99, after the TarOx disks warped I fitted the standard disks with the DS2000 pads - braking feel/performance was fantastic (I had braided hoses as well).

I'm interested to see whether the new ones hold up. Are TarOx still a *known brand* in the UK? Way back when I was running mkI/II escorts there these disks were the respected....but then in comparison to standard Ford items of the time, so was a disk of chocolate!

Tarox (Frenitalia) were distributed in the UK for many years by a company called GGB this goes back atleast ten years if not more and the brand was very well respected. Over the years the product quality diminished somewhat - there are many possible reasons for this (i will not comment for fear of getting it wrong or receiving a law suit) but ultimately Tarox (frenitalia) ceased trading with GGB approx. 3 years ago and set up their own depot in the UK to ressurect the brand quality and image. Instantly it became clear to us that the product was better than previously available. several months of court action ended in the two companies parting ways and Red Dot becoming the UK version. We have continued to trade with both companies for various products although only Tarox for discs and have had few problems. Our warranty return rate on Tarox amounts to no more than a couple of sets of discs per year.

jason
