MY93 Import Impreza Saloon
Hi guys,
Just a very quick question....I have the above car and I need to get a new speedo as mine is still in KMh. Do I need one that reads 120mph or 180mph. I think this is a stupid question as I'm pretty sure it will be 120mph but thought I should check with the gurus first!!
Cheers
Andy

I was going to leave it in KPH just for historical reasons...it means all the documents tie up easily.
Not sorted the turbo out yet...I still can't find out what I've currently got on there. Really irritating now cos I wanna move on and sort out the ECU etc. Some people say I should have a TD05 and some say it should be a TD04.

Personal preference really, but probably easier to convert it using one of the mechanical units. You can document when u carried out the conversion.
Looks like your in a hurry to mod everything for some reason, why not just sit back an enjoy the car for a while, get to know it.
IIRC I think you should have a TD05 anyway.

Nah mate....quite the opposite actually....I've done nothing to the car since I bought it last March!! Just been gradually buying all the bits now about to start fitting them!! The turbo bit is what is really bugging me!! I can't find any markings on the turbo to tell me what model it is!! I think it's a TD04 cos it kicks in way before my mate's TD05.

Ahh....ok....looks like I was looking in the wrong place then. I thought you could view the plate by looking in at the left hand side of the engine. Almost on top of the turbo. How wrong was I!!!
Mate....sorry to be a pain but you don't happen to have a pic of where I should be looking do you?? Just so I know what to look for and where it can be found.
No worries if you don't mate.
Cheers

not best picture you can see the black rubber elbow (under the bend of the strut brace recirc valve to the right) the compressor housing is there and at the bottom of the housing is most probably the id plate (but just had a look at my car and it's a nightmare to see anything down there even if you do remove the pipework)

Mate....you're a legend...thanks for sortin the photo out for me...much appreciated.
I agree with it being a nightmare....I have had a good look all around and can't see anything!! I might just have to take the turbo off to look at it. Prob end up being quicker!!

Boost Targets & Fuel-Cut Limits
WRX/STi Saloon ECU's 2C, U8, W6, W9 - As above, 11.47psi held to redline. Fuel-cut 14.57psi
WRX (1995/96) ECU Z4 - 12.71psi, dropping to 11.78psi @ 6600rpm. Fuel-cut 15.65psi.
TD05 turbo.I don't think the map on your ecu is suitable for the td04.

So the U8...does that mean I currently have a TD04 in your opinion??
So do I have the wrong ECU for my current turbo??

No i still reckon you have a td05 BUT what i don't know is why anyone would change to a smaller turbo quicker, spool up but for a standard car the td05 is hardly laggy and i don't know if the map on the U8 is suitable for the td04.
Your ecu is correct for your car (it is an early 93/94 wrx saloon).
What i will do later this afternoon/tomorrow is have a look at my mates car (94wrx) to see if i can pinpoint where the id plate is (i hope he has a standard turbo )

I don't get it....I bought the car practically bog standard...all that had been done was different wheels....stupid gay white dials (which have been removed!) and a crappy boost guage (which has also been removed and replaced!!). It seems weird to have changed the turbo.
Thanks for all your help mate...it's much appreciated...I'll buy you a beer someday!
If you do get a chance to check your mates out it would be appreciated.
I looked at my mate's 555 when the intercooler was off and pipework was off and neither of us could see the model number or anything. I suppose it's just a case of knowing where to look though.
Thanks again.
