first few questions

first few questions
Hi all, newbie here
i have just got a P plate sti yesterday
its a fresh import and its white(will get some pics up soon)
im just wondering how i tell what no it is, is it an sti 3 or 4 and what is the
difference between models ?
is the engine what is classed as a red top as the inlet mani is red ?
what is the standard power on an sti ?
And when i let off the gas, i get what sounds like a proper dump
although there is no dv fitted, and the noise doesent sound like
wastegate chatter, any ideas what this could be?
im sure there will be alot more i will be wanting to know, but this will do
for a start

You're going to get some 'odd' answers I'm afraid - and I'll start them...
The imported STi is designed to run on Jap fuel, which is a different octance rating than UK - I assume that its been remapped to suit UK fuel ? - therefore, the output will generally be lower than the official spec.
Also, ALL turbo imprezas have a d/v - though the factory fit is a recirculatory type, so no WHOOSH noise - maybe yours has been changed ?
I'm no expert on the early stis, so can't really tell you the differences I'm afraid - I'm not sure if the same differences apply to the Jap and UK models either -
Hopefully someone with more early STi knowledge will be able to help... And your local scooby club will be a good place to gen. up
