Optimax VS V-Power - remap question
Morning all, I have a question about my remap.
I got a new engine slapped in about 6 months ago and had an EcuTEK remap based on the 99ron Optimax fuel.
Would there be any benefit to now get a remap on the V-Power fuel as I’ve been told it’s a higher ron fuel?
My car is a MY03 WRX with an STI engine running 330 BHP.
Cheers, MikeyB

I'm getting between 180 and 190 per tank every time.
I've got the K&N Typhoon (wing) induction kit sat in my loft, I think I'll stick that on too and go for a remap.
Does anyone know what RON (officially) Shell has given V-Power?

Wait until you fit another mod that would require it and then get the remap done.
Otherwise the cost would outway the gains I'd have thought.

Here's a question about after mapping on V-Power. Is it safe to put a 10er normal super unleaded in if caught short between shell stations. Obviously not driving on big boost. Newage ECU, which I believe should cope with adjusting to different fuel types without reset
Cheers.
Cheers.
If you have already had a remap, can the ECU still adjust to different grades of fuel?? as far as I am aware, it can't??
I.E, if you map for Optimax (V-Power) and then put 95 ron fuel into the car, the ecu will NOT adjust thus you losing performance, is this correct?

It's not the loosing performance I'd be bothered about, it's the DET and associated problems.
The newage ECU will still retard itself after a remap as its knock sensor still works, it's just how far, and whether it can adjust enough to cope with a bit of super unleaded every now and then.

I had my STI5 ECUTEK remapped on V Power. It's by no means heavily modded, just the usual exhaust & filter type thing, but mpg is not great, so I dont think the economy from V Power is as good as it seemed to be from Optimax.
If you have a car mapped for Optimax, like it's been said, I wouldnt have thought a remap would be worth-while for V Power unless additional modifications are made....
As for using lower grade fuel in the absence of a suitable Shell stn, I alway carry a couple of bottles of octain boost, just to add to normal super in such eventualities - & then head for the nearest Shell garage whilst keeping off boost. It's only happened once or twice, but you can get caught out....

Please... Unless you're running horrendous levels of boost a tenner's worth of SUL is not going to kill the car. For every person on here who knows Scoobs inside out and wouldn't dream of polluting their tank of V-Power there are 50 actual owners out there putting in whatever ****e from whatever garage they happen to be passing without breaking down 25 yards up the road.

Ok, Ta. Sensible question to ask I thought as I'm not a mapper and don't fully appreciate the fuel tolerances that the ecu can deal with
In fact has there been any cases of someone killing a Newage with Det, when the MAF is working normally, or are the ECU's now clever enough retard sufficiently or limit boost in a limp mode to protect it (01 >) ?

Had my 02 STI recently mapped by Andy Forrest on V-Power and he said it's not a problem to revert to 97 if your caught short but it will reduce the power while doing so. He said to keep away from 95 now i'm mapped to V-Power though.
