New subaru rally car?
Petter Solberg and Chris Atkinson both mentioned the new car that will debut in Mexico (?) during the rally this weekend, is it a new version of the eagle eye (or whatever its now called) or the completely new model?
Cheers
Andy.

As Crash test, pedestrian crash scores and aerodynamics are having more of an effect on designs than looks All cars end up looking the same Manufactures are looking for the holy grail an unmistakable "Corporate Image/identity".
Subaru were looking to replace their most famous one, the Top mount Scoop because of possible impending Regs and repositioning TMIC.
So IMHO their more likely to lose the Alfa shape grille than the "Hawkeyes"

The impreza will probably look something along the lines of this at some point, that was a concept car from 2003 but that sort of shape is the way that things seem to be moving in.

Rob if you put all 4 pic's into the blender you won't be far off the size, shape and style
Apparently Prodrive were struggling to get the gearbox mounted nicely in the New Car so Phil Mills might have to put his feet on it

I'd assumed that the March 07 rally car rolled out for Rally Mexico will be small differences from the current 06 hawkeye rally car.
The new shape hatchback road car won't be around until, is it October 07 in Japan and March 08 in UK? So they won't be able to homologate a rally car based on that model until after that date. More likely Rally Mexico 08 I would have thought.
Anyone know for sure?

Granted WRC and road cars are very different but at least you can get 4x4 Impreza and Evo (even octavia).
It may as well be classed as sillouette WRC.
Sadly, however Ford and Citreon etc would never build and sell 4X4 cars soley to homologate a car for WRC - you'd end up losing WRC altogether in favour of JWRC.
All the "Specials" will probably never be seen again. 323 GTR, GTIR, Escossie etc.

I think this will be pretty close to the final rally car, maybe some differences to the lights / grill, etc.
But it will be a 5 door hatch, there is no 3 door model.
Prodrive have had a shell for some time for roll cage design.

This was the new car but it was newer in the sense that it had a better technical package, they were not going to bring out a totally different shape this season.
This new car as could be seen was going quite well with Peter Solberg until he lost all oil pressure from hitting a rock I believe and losing all oil.
He was leading at that point by a half decent margin very. So I guess this is good news for Subaru fans
Come on Subaru, lets get back to winning ways
