Default Thinking of buying a new WRX on 1st March

Hi all, as the title says I'm thinking of getting an 07 reg WRX and wondered if anyone can tell me what they are like to drive and own compared to the MY04 I used to have. Sold the MY04 I had in May for a need for a 7 seater but that's passed and I'm now in the market for a new car and can possibly stretch to a new WRX. Last one was from alliance and I see they are now listing stock WRX's in for just over 15 grand, seems cheap for a lot of car. Anyone know anywhere cheaper? Had a couple of niggles with the old MY04, needed new rear diff as mine hummed (replaced under warranty) and seat stitching came to bits on the rears, plus a few dash rattles - has quality improved on the new car?

How much different is the new car to what I'm familiar with? Has running cost changed significantly? Insurance group the same? Sound and performance of the new engine?

Also, budget is 12-15k and it has to be fun to drive and relatively quick, what else is out there?

Thanks for any info

Gordon

Great engine the 2.5 litre very torquey and the car in general feels better.New shape looks far better than the 04 model, fuel economy is the same as is the insurance....15k sounds cheap and will be an import which will require a immobolisar etc to bring it up to insurance requirements with the bits to add on £1500 extra

I was chatting to an engineer at my local Subaru dealership (top guy is he!!) He was saying how there's little benefit in getting the 2.5L WRX and either go for the STi or go for a Jap import - they seem to be of the mind that the 2.5l just ads weight rather than improve performance a huge amount.

Another guy I was chatting to that does Jap imports was saying he preferred the UK 2L WRX as opposed to the new UK 2.5L WRX.

Top car none the less - just perhaps an '05 or '06 with some Subaru warranty may be better value for money (especially as you wouldn't have to take the depreciation hit from new!)

Cat 1 alarm/immobiliser will cost you around £300 .Some insurance companies require a Tracker as well, maybe another £400.Locking wheel nuts £30.Thats about it.
Bought mine new from Allbrandsnew back in July,2005.No problems with them.Just make sure you will be the first registered owner on the V5,wherever you buy from,as some of them might be pre-registered.

Allbrandsnew come in at under 15k including the cat 1 alarm by the looks of it!!! Lot of car for the money.
For info, my last MY04 was also a parallel import from Malta through alliance and I was very happy with the service I got plus there were no problems with local dealer servicing or warranty claims. Never needed a tracker for insurance whilst I owned it.

Anyone else with thoughts on this?

I bought mine from Motorpoint last year. they fitted the cat 1 alarm for £300.

The tracker is only required for some insurance comapnies - Tesco I think was one. I never bothered as I have heard stories on here of cars getting nicked and the tracker being useless. I have got decent insurance quotes from Admiral (and Aplan).

are you trading in? only reason i ask is i've looked over the last week and went to dealers and autopoint etc and the dealer worked out at £1k less than motorpoint! Car was registered in dec but never driven, motorpoint was new but import, dealer also was also supplying prodrive flaps and decent mats. Might be worth a phone around as i couldn't believe some of the deals on pre-registered scoobs just now.

....and presumably £350 for metallic which brings the cost to £14100 around the same as newregcars and allbrands. Which is not surprising as there all owned by the same company.

sorry for potentially daft question but if these cars from companies like Allbrandsnew are imports am i going to have the same nightmare with insurance that ive had with imports in the past? I live in NI where insurance companies dont seem to like them.

14k is very tempting as its roughly the same price as an 04 STI.

Mine lands from Motor Depot on the 16th. £ 200 cheaper than Sideways, but mine has no sunroof. Great deal and am getting it PPP'd from my local dealer.
