Cameras in beauty spots can remain grey under the new regulations
...so we can look forward to the whole of the UK being designated a "beauty spot"

Exclamation

At the moment, it only covers the 15 or so police authorities that are allowed to keep the revenue earned from speed cameras. Whilst this is a start, I think you now have a potentially more dangerous situation where some cameras are clearly marked and other remains 'hidden and grey'. What we need is for all cameras to be painted in high visability colours. After all if a camera is triggered then it has failed to do it's job i.e. deter the 'speeding' motorist (unless they have another purpose, revenue gathering? Surely not... )

Interesting article.

More than 75% of drivers still support the use of speed cameras, according to Mr Freeman.
That'll be 4 motorists on Shetland that were questioned.

"Support drops off in areas where cameras are not well signed because motorists believe the government - or the police - are just using them to collect money."
That'll be the rest of us then

As good citizens, ought we be to help the police paint the cameras ? I'd volunteer to paint some a nice dayglo yellow, although my painting might be a bit too thorough for their loking :-)

This new legislation only applies to 'new' cameras, all existing cameras will remain grey and hidden !

My current personel award for 'devious positioning' goes to the M11 Stanstead roadworks....every single camera is either behind a sign or a large lump of concrete....

Not that I'm against 40 limits in roadworks but you would think they would make them obvious to slow people down !

Are you sure Lambo?

The GATSOs on the A34 near me have just had fluorescent yellow strips attached to the back of them. They've been up for years.

On the TDE, I noticed a camera on the A9 had been moved from being hidden by a large sign into the open on a dual-carriageway.

Looks like some places have made a start.

Interesting point about the signage not being more than 2/3 mile or whatever from an actual camera...round by me there are dozens of camera signs......but NO cameras....LOL (signs are cheaper!)

Wonder what they will do....remove the signs or put up loads of yellow camera's

Unhappy

The cameras in my area are being painted a dark blue colour!! Yes that is really noticeable, I thought the idea of speed cameras was to warn you that you are in an accident blackspot and to slow down but with the police getting the funds from the cameras now it makes you wonder.....

Why is it that all we read in the papers and on the tv these days is ****ing speed cameras, speed cameras and more ****ing speed cameras. The ****ing goverment knows that all they do is generate extra money for them and they know it would not happen in any other country but as usual we get shafted again and again along with every thing else we like or need to survive. I hope all of the Scooby net win the lottery sooner or later so we can all **** off to a better country.
