Bedford - was it fun?

...doesn't matter what it was made off, it was a bluddy good job he picked it up again so I could have my last half-an-hour out on track - into the darkness.
Also, I nearly got chucked off as I was accused of ignoring a black flag - big argument pending - when they realised it was in fact Craig's car which looked the same as mine (only slower ), and we both had noise warning stickers on our windscreens.
Anyway, absolutely fantastic day - arms still aching as I am off to do a downpipe on on someones car.
Best moments
Mike Wood - doing a perfect slide through the fast right hander past the pit lane
Stef's bonnet - enuff said
Phill having cramp in his hand after being my passenger
Getting 140mph on the back straight, except then Craig claimed even more!
Discovering how much water injection improves the heat control of the car on track - absolutely brilliant - can't recommend it more highly

Chins and Trout please.....
I was in his car doing around 138ish up the back straight, hanging on for my life to the bottling handles Held on so tight that I couldn't open my fingers for 5 minutes after getting out.
And when we braked (which I thought was rather late) I was gripping the seat with my butt cheeks. LOL
The trout mobile is bloody fast, thanks for taking me out in it.
Cheers Phill C

Thanks for all the comments guys, much appreciated. As was everyone's behaviour on the day, it was ace.
We will be booking the venue again early next year so watch this space. If there's any circuit in the country where you want it to be wet, Bedford is definitely the one!
Bonnet incident was a bit of a hair-raiser. There I was accelerating like a little demon when BANG!!! At 90mph all I could see was.....well, nothing. I can't believe the windscreen was intact either, but I'd have rather had a smashed screen than a badly dented roof.
CK1 has now been put into winter hibernation and will return next year looking meaner and going quicker than ever.
Trout.
How powerful is your car? I heard on the day you were getting 140mph along the back straight. If you were upset that Craig was quicker, you'll feel even worse when you hear that CK1 was pulling 135mph two-up, and with just 260bhp!!!
See you all next time.
Stef.

It was cool
A great day had by all, and thanks to Trout, David and Pete Croney for showing me what their cars are capable of in the wet (particular mention to Pete who managed to take me sideways around most of the tight corners )
Next time maybe I'll go out if the car's run in by then.

Turned up today just to watch. Begged and borrowed some cash and 20 mins later I was on track.
Great day. 35 cars and that huge circuit. No traffic and wide run off areas incase you got it wrong. Nice to see the Bimmer Reps specials stayed clean whilst a few P1's covered their windows in mud
Went there not knowing how my new wheels went in the wet. Came back well impressed . Still smilling whilst I write this.
Thanks to Stef and co as usuall. Also special mention to Trout for a) lending me some cash and b) taking me out in his Rice Mobile
Thanks to Babber for the load of the rest of the cash - still you got a free ECU

Paul Micheal Davis - you weren't in the old style Legacy were you? - I thought it was doing the 4x4 circuit at first then it rejoined the track
Craig - did you lose the bung on the back portion of the circuit - I saw you stop and pick something up at one point - thought you had an off at first Anyhow, that silver Evo was VERY noisy, surprised that past the noise test and yours didn't
Why is there a noise limit on an old airfield??
Stef, hope you get it sorted OK - can't believe the windscreen is intact.
Trout - which car is yours?
UK300 - (*** PRO) some gorgeous slides coming off that bend by the pit straight - a joy to watch.
Cem - next time
Hopefully I'll be out there next time to enjoy the fun.
I think the Formula Palmer thingy overcooked it on one bend!

Hello to everyone.
I would like to thank you all for a very good day , it was the first time at Bedford for me as well as my first SIDC day, but NOT the last !
I have never been on circuit with such a high quality field of cars and the driving standards & etiquette were the best I`ve seen to date.
Needless to say I really enjoyed myself !
Kind regards
Dave ( silver evo 6 )

One of the best track days I have ever done. As said above etiquette was superb and WOW is that place good in the wet.
So easy and safe to play with the car in a four wheel drift that it became rude not to do it everywhere
Top marks for the spins by Cem, the Exige and the RB5. Very generous of you to do them in front of the pit lane crowd too
Hilarious to follow Mike Wood with Rob Mac showing the lines...
Rob Mac "This ones flat in forth with a little lift to turn it in..."
Mike Wood "No its not you B*****d. AAAAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH"
Rob Mac sitting there laughing his socks off.
All done within Mike's excellent ability, I should add
How that bloke drove the FPA so quick in the wet is totally beyond me. But then I suppose being Palmers chief instructor does require a certain sack full of talent Nice one Phil.

I will be back for sure.
A top mornings activities and excellent track prowess
Highlight of the day for me was the one lap with the DSC switched off and with Simon in the car.
The system on the car is so good. Seems to apply a lot of safety margin and understeer which I personally dont like but lets you learn the circuit in safety.
With the system off in the wet it really does require a bit of carefull throttle application which I`m not so good at
Really much quicker lap for me with the system off and some fantastic powerslides.......one good one flat in third onto the start and finnish straight which I hope some of the spectators enjoyed
Couldnt resist taking the system off for all the tight hairpins as me and oversteer are good buddies
They say that if you feel quick then youre probably not but that particular lap just seemed right. Shame the watch wasnt on
Any way yesterday just made me realise how good this car really is and if I had more time I would have shown a few more of you.
Till next time when the DSC will be off all the time
PS BMW standard brakes seem the bo11ox. Subaru learn
PPS anyone seen the new Clarkson vid yet with me old mates motor in.
Flash chunt even got his name in the credits

markab,
Have you managed to upload any videos to my web space yet mate ?
Upload any videos to there, so people can view them if you like. I'll get some more space on Monday.
Cheers Phill C

Phil,
if you thought my braking was late in the morning, you should have been with me in the afternoon - and at one point I had a UK even outbraking me! He was driving the door handles of the thing, although I though it was good manners to drive actually on the track he drove everywhere through the twisty bits to catch me up again...
...and then I realised the track wasn't wet anymore
Anyway, couldn't quite get 140mph on the back straight with lardy passengers, only en seule. Slower coming out of the hairpin and slightly less acceleration, so hats off to Craig, who did it easily, with Jase in the car
Rikki,
I was in the STi V with my name on the number plate. I am quite happy to say that I tuned my car to make up for lack of driver skill.

thanks as usual to Jock for being a top bloke and a great driver! Plus a special mention to Steve in the Exige. He took time to chat with me,took me for a ride and was a really nice chap and great driver.Cheers.Pleasure to meet you Steve and I will take you up on the offer of a ride in the dry! In fact the hospitality and general atmoshere at the SIDC days is superb.Enough to make me buy a Scooby.Although after a 147 I will have to get used to attracting ugly birds.
ps it was worth the trip just to try and follow Stef and Doc to the pub.The old bird who got death by de-cat took it out on me!

Well I got 239 BHP in my hesitating bag of ****e, and chins couldn't catch me in the M3 (although to be fair he was supposed to be running it in, and it was a little wet)
Markab (270 BHP) also said he don't know what I was moaning about my car for, as I kept with him for a few laps until I made a mistake.
Cheers Phill C
