Cool

What do you mean "when P1 prices START dropping"

Make the dealer an offer, you never know what they might do

Yex,

Tried that - they won't even sell their demonstrator for less than list.

I'm sure that will change soon.

Don't go there

The P1 is based on a combination of Type R, STi 4-door and new bits. Tuned for the UK roads.

In terms of comfort, gearing and basic handling traits the Sti 4-door is probably much closer to the P1 than the Type R.

They can be found brand new for around £21-23k. Check the back of Autocar for ads or search the web, Autotrader, Broadspeed, etc.

And for around £21k you can apply a fews bits and bobs to your STi to 'optimise' performance on UK fuel and get the handling on par. But from hearsay the P1 will be more compliant on bumpy roads - it depends what you are looking for.

R

PS Forgot to mention I have had an Sti V for nearly two years with no issues or complaints on parts or servicing.

I have found general servicing is not a problem - When you can get a new import for so much less than a P1 I'd do that. The only problem I had was getting it repaired after a minor crash - just got it back after 3 weeks, which is probably 10 days longer than a UK car would have taken. Otherwise, I find the imports fantastic on uk roads and even better on the track.

Rannoch,

You mean literally brand new - eg. STI VI for £21-23k ?

I might hold off til P1 prices start dropping - buts thats debateable too.

Thanks all for you comments

I know the P1 is based on a Jap car, and I know its got shorter gearing than the UK Turbo. I know the TypeR has shorter gearing - is this the nearest match.

I've been offered 13k to change to a P1 from a MY00 with 9k on the clock, which is a little excessive (my car has a/c, PPP, Scoobysport exhaust)

I was wondering what kind of deal I could get on a equivalent imported car, and what model I should look for around £25k or less.

Do any of you lot have a website explaining the implications of running an import in this country (eg. servicing, passing mot,etc..)

Cunning - I do mean £21-23k - you have access to the web - do a few searches, or try the mags.

There are still plenty of cars around. With say a £21k start point, you could have a brilliantly sorted car running on UK for £25k.

You know it makes sense

BTW my local real Scooby dealer says that he has sold 7 P1s recently (and they only had 5 to sell originally, of which 2 were presold!) and also a sh*t load of interest in late model current cars - all since the new car appeared. If you want a P1 one he has more in stock.

Scoob dealers must be getting nervous with all the investment in posh glass frontage over the last couple of years!

Question

I thought the P1 was based on the STi version 5 Type R (hence the body kit, bar the rear spoiler (well, if i had it yet))..

Seem to recall Jap Car Mag saying the above in a review...

Not that it makes any difference, but I was also under the impression that the P1 was based on an STi V.

I was told (by a reliable source) that P1 was a mixture of Sti vers3, 4 and 5. The engine I was told was version 4 as it was harder adapting vers 5 engine. Some body parts are even back to version 3 due to availability ! But I have to say, after the problems with paint, parts etc (Dr Evil) it seems easier to get Japanese parts than bits from Prodrive.

Come on Prodrive - restore some faith - where is Dr Evil's rear wing ???

Trigger,

Ah.. a mix of 'em all.. interesting...

My rear spoiler has been sitting at the dealer's for two weeks now, but there appear to be issues with whose is whose & fitting the car in to their current work schedule..

But, they kindly re-alligned my steering wheel and checked out my car for damage this morning after hitting a bl&&dy great pot-hole in Farnham last night, I will be ring the council about this shortly!

Rannoch,

The dealers say they were only allocated say 5 cars, but there's seems to be some double standards as every dealer I know can get hold of a 'cancelled order'

Its no sweat finding a new P1 - its the price I baulk at, especially when you can get an STi V for £21k

What mods do you reckon I would need to do to the STi V ? eg. do they need suspension adjustments to run on UK roads ?

Sonic Blue STi V with a set of anthracite 18" OZs, smoked glass windows. Wonder how an STi V feels performance wise to a P1 ?
